Creations, Fun with Fabric

I got carried away in the fabric store recently when I was looking for something to make new pillow covers for the master bedroom.
All the cute seasonal stuff was in the front of the store, on sale, and it was hard to resist looking…
I knew immediately that I wanted the French text print, and the colors in the floral just SANG Spring! The pink pin dot was so bright and would be easy to use in an array of tablescapes…Oh, I loved the shamrocks on the black background, I recently painted an order of shamrock wines, and did 2 extra for us, so this cloth would be fun to use for some St. Patrick’s Day decor. And Valentines of course, I could make some Valentine napkins!
In typical fashion I turned one project into several, so I started with the Valentine napkins. Being thrifty minded {HAHAHAHA!} let’s change that to, having not really thought this through, I bought a yard of each. That’s a lot of fabric right? And if I just bought a yard, why I could get lots of different ones too! I am such an idiot.
I did carefully measure and cut and decided I could make 6 napkins out of a yard. These aren’t giant size but they are big enough, and will look cute in table settings. Easy care cotton makes them attractive choice also.
Nothing fancy here, just a straight stitch, turning the edge over 1/4″ and then over itself 1/4″ again and sewing.
I had 6 pink and 6 Valentine napkins in no time!
I am going to make a simple table topper or a runner with the yard of shamrock fabric, and some place mats with the floral. You will see it in future photos!
I have a very limited collection of table linens, so making my own will give me a chance to create lots of different looks without spending a fortune.
Do you have any table top tips or secrets?
