Are you thinking green? Or maybe dreaming about a pot of gold? St. Patrick’s Day might not be the most popular holiday to decorate for, but I bet you have a lot of things to set a fun table without leaving your home. I have the most fun when I have to come up with something out of what I can find around the house.
Don’t forget to look outside too! The cabbage plants on my patio were just about spent so with a little trimming they were placed in green water goblets. They remind me of girls in dresses with lots of petticoats!
The soup tureen sits on a cake stand topped with a white charger
and I made a “skirt” around the pedestal base using cabbage leaves.
I borrowed a faux hydrangea arrangement from the dining room and added a Christmas cactus in a green antique planter on the other side to create a backdrop of green foliage.
The mock napkin rings were made by folding paper shamrock cocktail napkins and taping the ends together. The green bead and wire soup ladle on a ceramic spoon rest is ready to serve the soup.
A square green charger holds a beaded ceramic white plate and a green salad plate holds the soup bowl. We are having a simple meal of Potato Soup and mini Reuben Sandwiches…but with this elegant setting it will feel fancy schmancy!
When I first started this tablescape I thought I would have to go out and get some flowers, and perhaps some more green vegetables or parsley. I did purposely buy the cabbage the day before with this St. Pat’s table in mind, but I didn’t know exactly what I would do with it. I started slowly, building it layer by layer and kept thinking of things I had…The shamrock cloth is a yard of fabric I bought in January, with a table topper in mind. But that’s it, a yard of fabric and a head of cabbage and a little thought. My favorite part is the real cabbage, I would have never thought of that if I had gone to buy flowers!
Creating is all about seeing things in new ways, walk around your house and really LOOK. I bet you discover something you haven’t SEEN in a while!
