Creations, Burlap Bow

A few weeks ago, when my grand daughter was due any moment, I popped over to a favorite local gift shop to get something “Oh so cute!” for DD & NG’s mailbox.  Do people decorate their mailboxes all over the country with bows for a new baby? I have no idea, but in the South it’s THE FIRST THING you do after the baby arrives! I knew I wanted something different, not just a big pink bow.

it's a girl bow thepaintedapron.com

When I got to the shop, it was FULL of bunnies and Easter and so many temptations, but alas, not much for a baby arrival.  With great restraint I bought nothing from the ever so tempting array of spring decor and went on to another favorite shop…which was CLOSED! WHAT? Closed for one day only because of an emergency…OK, I don’t have time for this so I finished my other shopping and went home….

where I started thinking….hmmmm…..

Just in time too, Baby Girl arrived the very next day!

In the South, it’s not uncommon for the grandmothers to put bows on their own mailboxes too, but I’m not doing that, I don’t want to confuse my neighbors!  We also put white bows out for weddings.  It’s instant happiness when you spot a pink, blue or white bow, you know that family has been blessed with a special event!  What is the tradition where you live?

Thank you SO much for your visit today!

Though I have lived in the south, if Texas can be called that, most of my life I didn’t know
about this tradition. In my neighborhood putting a bow on a mailbox would be very difficult because nobody has the mailbox, they all have mailslots. Your burlap creation is better
    than anything you could’ve bought.

I love this idea, here florists and/or gift shops rent out large wooden storks, in the appropriate color, and there are places to fill in the child’s name, weight, length, etc. Sometimes people will have balloons outside their doors. Happy Easter! xo

  3. What a fun tradition! I don’t think it’s a thing here, especially in the suburbs where we don’t have individual mailboxes. (Stupid mail station is half a block up the doggone street!) In the city of Kansas City, MO, however, most people living in single family homes DO have individual mailboxes, but they’re all attached to the houses by the front door. So I don’t know…that would be a fun thing to get started here! Your bow turned out beautiful, and it’s a wonderful departure from the usual plain pink! Congratulations once again, and have a happy Easter weekend reveling in your new “baby bunny bundle of joy”! 🙂

    • Sweet Alycia! It’s been interesting how different the mail is depending on the area. I’m sort of surprised the government hasn’t “outlawed” mail box decorations! I hope you and hubby have the relaxing weekend you are hoping for and that Spring is coming your way!

What a cute site!! I love it! One of my favorite styles is rustic with a bit of a “pop” or sparkle and your burlap bows are awesome! So trying this! Thanks 🙂
