Tablescapes, Blue Fish with a Wedge of Lime

Ok, we’ve all had a challenging Spring…so let’s forget about that and start thinking about Summer! Cool breezes, blue water, beach getaways! Yippee!!  Just to get us all in the mood I decided to post this tablescape I did on a very cold February weekend at the beach.  It was so cold and windy there was not even any porch sitting much less boating.

Lately blue & white tablescapes have been all the rage in blog land and I decided it would be fun to try to set a blue & white themed table myself.  I generally gravitate towards warmer and brighter colors but if I had anything blue it would definitely be at the beach house.

I started gathering things, and found many more blue pieces than I thought I would…

I deviated from the blue & white theme right off the bat, being the rule breaker that I am, and plopped this wacky lime shaggy rug in the center of the table for a centerpiece base.

I thought the shaggy texture mimicked underwater grasses and made a nice contrast to the blue and white pieces.  Besides, I didn’t have a white tablecloth…

I do have large white buffet plates that I used as chargers with my cobalt plates.  The starfish center salad plates have shades of blue and edged in lime with fish swimming around the rim, and a lime green sherbet bowl atop the stack.  I did find some blue & white fish napkin rings!  But had to settle for paper napkins, but hey, things should be casual at the beach, right?

A blue crab sits ready to hold a wine bottle, and a tiny blue rimmed glass bowl holds some sea salt for seasoning.  I borrowed Super Boy’s spoon for salt serving because it just happened to be blue & lime!

I added some blue goblets and some balloon glasses painted with fish.  The fish glasses repeat the golden yellow, lime and blues in the starfish salad plate plus the dominant cobalt color of the tablescape.

See my “prissy fish” peeking around the ginger jar?

It looks bright and sunny outside doesn’t it?  It was but it was about 40 degrees!

So we had a nice cozy spot to dine inside looking out… Before long we will be back outside on the porch in the summer breezes,

enjoying swimming and boating…

I can’t wait!

Is is warming up where you live? I hope it won’t be long…
