I found this cotton organic yarn at Hobby Lobby last year when I wanted to crochet a baby blanket for my second grandson. It was a good price and I loved the fun colors.
When I decided to go back for more it was on close out! What!!!! Discontinuing this fab yarn???? Oh no!! I scooped up what they had and hurried home to investigate the yarn company’s website… www.bernat.com. Bingo! everything I wanted and more! Don’t you love online convenience?
The yarn is great for babies because of the soft texture of the cotton and it comes in a variety of modern fun colors.
Seakiss aqua, cheeky pink, sweet treats multi, wonder white, catnip lime. They have lots of other great colors too, poppy orange, country red, little boy blue, pretty in pink and sweet cream, just to name a few…other multis too!
I like to crochet because it’s fast and easy. My pieces do NOT turn out perfectly, so with the knobby texture of the cottontots yarn and the bright colors I can get away with it! I have made 5 blankets this last year, 2 for my grandchildren and 2 for great nephews, and 1 for a baby gift. I don’t crochet regularly, by any means, but I like to have a crochet or needlepoint project to stitch in the car on our frequent trips to the coast. 8 hours round trip, I can get a lot done!
This is the blanket I made for my newest grandchild, Baby C, born last month. I finally got to use PINK! DD is not big on pink but, I HAD to use some of this “Cheeky” pink color.
I stitched the main body of the blanket in “Wonder White” with a single crochet stitch and and large crochet hook.
I don’t know exactly what size the plastic hook on the right is, it’s not marked, but the blue metal hook is size K so you can get an idea. A large hook makes for fast results!
After stitching the main body I edged the entire blanket with a row of single crochet in “Cheeky Pink.” Then at each end of the blanket I added a section of multi in single crochet, then a lacy finish, using double and triple crochet in a shell stitch pattern.
As I mentioned earlier, I am strictly a novice, but the yarn and colors not only make up for an uneven piece, it is the nature of the yarn to be loose and free form.
Besides, who is going to look at the blankets when they’re full of these cuties!
I can’t decide if I want to keep calling her Baby C, or maybe Sweet Girl, or her initials, CC…what do you think?
Her cousin, pictured above, I have been calling New Baby, but since he’s not the new baby anymore he needs a new name too…Here are the names I’m considering…Side Kick {Because he’s Super Boy’s little brother and goes with him everywhere, sort of a Batman & Robin type thing} or Big E because he is going to be really tall and E is his initial…
