Creations, Polka Dot Birdhouse

I bought this birdhouse months ago and even though I loved the white,

I was itching to do something to it

I know you’re thinking STOP! Don’t do it! It already looks lovingly weathered and perfect!  I know…

It is adorable…

Maybe just a little touch of color…I am currently OBSESSED with turquoise, sea glass, aqua, or whatever name of this wonderful blue you’d like to call it.

It looked pretty at our Bunny Brunch, but I knew it would probably change a little more~if you look closely you can see it doesn’t have a steeple in this photo~I didn’t even notice this when I bought it, but eventually I heard something rattling around…some thoughtful soul had tucked it inside! So with a little shaking I coaxed it out and glued it back on

And it all came down to a few polka dots and a stripe or two

I just love polka dots

and black and white……..and my new favorite turquoise

So I set a little table for tea in the garden with turquoise, black and white polka dots and a flowered stripe tea towel

The birdhouse is nestled in an airy wreath of blue buds on a cake stand surrounded with a stack of aqua grapevine wreaths at the base

How fun is this crazy bee cup with the silver honeycomb saucer?  I love the unexpected!

This little feathered friend is nesting on some Hatching Bird’s Egg Cookies~if you look closely you can see the eggs are hatching!

{If anyone knows how to bake with M&Ms without them cracking, please let me know!

There are some savory nibbles in the polka dot apothecary jar to compliment the cookies and tea

I painted large gray dots on the birdhouse back to mimic the entry hole on the front.  I hope the birds don’t get confused!

Sometimes my sense of humor is questionable….the other day in Hobby Lobby a fellow shopper in the fabric department asked me if I knew where the invisible thread was…well now, I could hardly pass up this opportunity, and I said, “I really don’t know because you can’t see it!”  Of course I thought this was hilarious but she just went on with her shopping…

Look at the little windows on the side, aren’t they sweet?

What a wonderful day for a spot of tea in the garden!

Thanks so much for your visit today!

The bee cups were on clearance from One Kings Lane, $12 for set/2

The black and white polka dot plates are from Amazon.com

The blue plates are from my local grocery, Publix, $2 each

The rest of the settings, flatware, chargers, and pewter plates I have had for years.

The flower dome and polka dot apothecary jar are from JMdesigns

I purchased the towel from World Market {$3.99} and it was large enough to cut in half to make 2 napkins

The cookies were just a version of the traditional 7 layer bar with the addition of peanut M&Ms…it looked pretty before I baked it and they cracked open, hence the “Hatching Birds Egg Cookies” but regardless they are soooooo easy and so good.

7 LAYER BARS  for a printable version click here

1/2 cup unsalted butter
1 1/2 cups graham cracker crumbs
1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
1 cup butterscotch chips
1 cup white chocolate chips
1 cup chopped walnuts, pecans, sliced almonds, cashews or macadamia nuts OR peanut M&Ms
1 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (180 degrees C).
Place butter in 13 x 9 inch pan and melt in oven. Swirl to coat bottom and sides with butter.
Spread crumbs evenly over bottom of pan and mix well with butter, patting to form crust.  Layer chocolate chips, butterscotch chips, and nuts over crumbs. Pour condensed milk over nuts.    Bake until edges are golden brown, about 25 minutes. Let cool, cut into bars.
