Beach House tour part 3, Great Room & Kitchen, before and after
Our beach house has only 2 bathrooms which means the guest bathroom has to be really functional. The challenge has been the size, but I think we have come up with a wonderful solution~
The narrow bath with separate vanity and walled off tub/shower, toilet area was common when this house was built back in the 1980s
The before pictures you see today are after the first redo, over 12 years ago. We covered over the original floral wallpaper with sheet rock mud and painted it in several shades of blue. Sheet rock mud is a great way to eliminate wall paper if you like texture, it hides a multitude of sins
The floor was tiled with blue tiles and yellow accents, and the counter top was finished with imported yellow tiles. It wasn’t fancy, but lots of color in a beachy atmosphere and it looks funky and cute
But it was VERY claustrophobic
When the shower head started moving around in the sheet rock and DD’s beach wedding was fast approaching, we decided it was time for an upgrade You can see a peak at the original floral wallpaper by the broom handle on the left.
The wall came down between the vanity and tub areas to open up the space, and a walk in shower was built to replace the prefab tub.
Come on in, I can’t wait to show you how it turned out…
It has a “spa” like feeling now~
The old cabinets were taken out and a new vanity was built
The vanity has a granite top and a vessel sink. The backsplash tile is the same glass tiles used in the shower accent border
Under the vanity is one closed storage cabinet, which conceals the plumbing, and 2 open shelves for towels and supplies. Guests can easily help themselves to a new bar of soap or a fresh towel. Oops, I see we need some more toilet paper!
The vanity top is higher than standard counters {my family is tall} so a pull out step stool is easily slid out from underneath if necessary
A tall custom open shelf unit holds matching baskets which slide out to hold personal toiletries. Whether this bathroom is shared by 1 or 6, family or friends, everyone can grab their own basket and stash their stuff so the bath stays clean and organized.
It stays clean and neat on the busiest of days!
HHjr insisted on this very cool light switch that controls the lighting and the fan. He designed and built the whole room with the help of his very talented crew. It’s so handy when your son is a licensed contractor, specializing in remodeling, not to mention a creative genius! Sigh….if only I didn’t have to pay him, it would be perfect!
This is the shower right before the glass was installed
Removing the wall and old tub and replacing it with this larger open shower makes the bathroom feel twice as big
There is a granite topped seat in the shower
and some flip flop hooks stand by to grab wet suits~
Thanks for viewing our before and after photos, everyone loves the new “spa” bathroom!
