Tablescapes, Paper Parasols
I am loving all the bright colors everywhere right now, you see them in fashion, home decor and of course the beautiful flowers of summer~
I saw this fabric the other day and just had to have it! I had NO idea what I wanted to do with it…there wasn’t much left on the bolt, only 1 2/3 yards…I asked if they gave a discount for the end of the bolt…she said “No, sorry…” Really? Shoot, but I bought it anyway. It might turn into a pillow or 2,
but for right now it is going to hide the unsightly blotches on my fading fast ottoman~
I know, right! It’s really quite embarrassing…all of a sudden a giant chunk was missing…I think Super Boy peeled it off. My problem is I can’t find a new one I like…plus I want a new rug…and new chairs…and I’m scared to buy anything without planning the whole room out….oh and I want to paint the walls, and paint the secretary with ASCP, but can’t decide what color…AND, we just had to buy a new washer, dryer and AC unit for the beach house, so HH is REALLY not excited about my redecorating thoughts right now….SO, sigh…
for now, I just have to make do
and use some bright summer colors
to hide my shabby little secret…I really need to find a new ottoman asap!
It’s also just enough to make a topper on the dining room table. See I’m really getting bang for my buck here! I’ve probably saved enough for a new ottoman already! Gotta think positive!
Setting the middle of this table makes a large table feel cozy for a smaller group. My large green platter and faux hydrangea are the perfect matching green
Bright paper parasols are scattered around
I just kept pulling out things in these colors~ place mats in a coordinating print ground the place settings
These tiny pedestal cups are perfect for butter, salt, salsa or sauce, or for holding a roll or a dessert
Pink pin dot napkins are tied with jute and a bright parasol.
Beverage glasses painted with watermelon and bananas
Pink, lime orange and aqua makes for a splendid summer palette of color!
Colorful fun is popping everywhere!
Paper parasols are tucked into green candlesticks. The pretty blue Ball jars hold votive candles along side tall airy iron daisy candlesticks

While you are saving up to buy a replacement, have you considered a quick and easy reupholster of your ottoman with an easy-sew slipcover? I’m sure you can find lots of instructions on the internet how to do one. Or see if there is a ready-made available online that will fit your ottoman’s dimensions. Or – paint it. Since you think it’s ruined anyway why NOT paint it? I know there are fabric paints out there in the real world that people can use to paint upholstered furniture; surely there must be something available that can touch-up the damage done to your ottoman, be it leather or faux leather, and/or to repaint the top portion or the entire thing — and I’m not talking about acrylic craft paints but if you can’t find anything else, why not try them??? Isn’ crackled look, you know, the “aged” look, what shabby chic is all about anyway? BTW, your dining room set is to DIE for! Classic Ming Dynasty style in beautifully finished wood. Wow.
Hi Jan! I really appreciate your suggestions, I have toyed with the idea of making a cover for it, the big challenge here is to keep it functional, we always have our feet up on it and the grands love to play and walk around it. Never thought about painting it, that’s a crazy cool idea, you just never know! Thanks for the ideas and comments!
