I wanted to experiment with the Annie Sloan Chalk Paint color, “Florence,” on a small piece before I tackle some furniture I want to redo. I found this galvanized pitcher that I use occasionally for flowers and thought I’d give it a little make-over…
If you’re not familiar with this paint product it is being widely used for painting and redoing furniture these days. Not only does it produce fabulous results, the ease of use is why it’s so crazy popular. You don’t even have to remove the old finish, you can basically just start painting away. When the look and color is right you apply some soft wax to your piece to set the paint and leave it with a soft patina.
First a coat of ASCP Old White
then a few streaks of Florence
Yikes, this wasn’t what I had in mind at all!
I went back for some more Old White to tone down the Florence. One of my favorite things about using this paint is it’s FAST drying time~
I painted the top band and handle to completely cover the Florence
I took a sanding block to some of the raised areas to expose some of the metal
Then I applied the recommended coat of clear wax, followed by the dark wax…
I didn’t really like the dark wax, so I got busy rub, rub, rubbing, most of it off
Hmmmmmm………………
I decided to try it out
I still didn’t love it, it needed just a little something else~
So I went back and added some white dots on the raised swirls, and florence dots in some swirl patterns on the upper band
and then it felt finished! Sometimes, you have to just jump in and try a few things until you get it the way you like it!
Have you heard about the newest Annie Sloan Chalk Paint color, English Yellow? It is supposed to mix with all the other colors to create an entire new palette of colors! I can’t wait to try this! For more info click here
