Tablescapes, A Pirate’s Tale

I have a Pirate’s Tale to share today.

The Gulf coast of Alabama and the panhandle of Florida are full of bays and inland waters that were havens for pirates many years ago. Legend has it that they sought shelter in a secluded cove tucked deep into Perdido Bay, Florida

Perdido means lost in Spanish.  This is “Pirates Cove,” it is tucked into the sleepy little hamlet of Josephine, on the waters of Perdido Bay. source

This is how the cove looks today, a narrow channel sneaks past a sandy penninsula that guards a hidden shelter for the sailboats.  source

There are lots of pirates in these thar waters~  source

So keep your eyes on the maidens and jewels    source

Hop aboard and we’ll sail over to a secret island and look for buried treasure~ source

It looks like we’re going in the right direction

There is gold up ahead

Let’s take a closer look

What’s that? A message in a bottle?

Let’s take a closer look…

Looks like a ship wreck and pirates!!

Ohhh there’s a treasure chest!

I wonder what happened to those poor ship wrecked souls…

They must not have heeded the warnings!

oh no!!

Skull sandwiches…not a good sign!!

They must have gotten too close to the treasure

and turned into the main course!!

Oh, dear, I fear we’re too late!

When the signs say beware, don’t dare go near there!

Mess with their gold…

and you’ll never grow old!

When you see the skull and crossbones, TURN BACK!

DANGER AHEAD!

If you want to try to distract the pirates while you search for their gold,

skull sandwiches are easy to make.  Use some thin sliced bread and cut a diagonal and then a straight line starting from a point about 2/3 up from the bottom on each side. You can cut more than one slice at a time, just stack the bread slices

Then trim the bottom, and make slits to form teeth

Leave the bottom slices without eye holes so the “blood” will show through

Spread the bottom slices with red strawberry or raspberry jam and the top slices with peanut butter.

Now you have a skull sandwich any pirate would love!

Later this week I will show you how to make an old treasure map

and share the recipe for a low calorie version of the famous Bushwacker, the preferred cocktail at Pirates Cove!

In the meantime, watch out for pirates!

Thanks for sailing with me today, you have a great sense of adventure!
