Tablescapes, Laborless Day, Watemelon & Flip Flops

Happy Labor Day! I hope you are having a wonderful and relaxing lazy weekend~We are having a Laborless Labor Day on the coast, and even though we have been dining at home all weekend, it has been no work at all~

HHjr and I do most of the cooking around here, and we planned the Labor Day menu early in the week, so I could do as much shopping as possible before hand.  Sometimes we do elaborate things, but this weekend was all about simple and easy, good ole USA favorites..

Like New Orleans BBQ Shrimp

You might notice that there isn’t any flatware on this table

or fancy glassware…it will be canned drinks today

Flip flops keep the pink napkins from flopping around in the breeze

Watermelon is obviously on the menu!

There are a lot of  extra napkins

You have to keep things secured so they don’t blow about!

The upcoming summer meal can all be eaten with fingers~

and watermelon of course,

which CC thought looked very tempting indeed!

The rest of the group was pretty excited about the BBQ shrimp.  I’m still not quite sure why it is called BBQ shrimp, because it’s basically shrimp roasted in a spicy butter sauce, but around here it’s called BBQ shrimp or New Orleans BBQ Shrimp.  In New Orleans this is often the way shrimp is prepared and served.

DSC_1190

You make a sauce with butter, lemon, and spices.  Chef Prudhomme is a famous New Orleans chef that really helped make modern cajun cuisine popular.  We use his seasoning on lots of things~

Put the unpeeled shrimp into a shallow baking dish with the lemon wedges and pour sauce over all

Now you know why there isn’t any flatware, but LOTS of napkins on the table!  The hardest part of this recipe is waiting until time to eat!

Fabulous as always. Wish we were there this weekend. I recognize the seashell napkin ring piled in the pink chair (I think I gave you that on a wine bottle once). FYI, please delete mobirdsong@bellsouth.net and ADD mobirdsong@gmail.com. Thanks. Happy day to you and yours.

    • You have a sharp eye Miss M, I love that seashell napkin ring and use it all the time in all kinds of fun places and always think of you 🙂

Hi Jenna – So I see the picture on the link party, say, “oooohhhh” and then hover and then say, “of course it’s Jenna’s!” LOL. I am obsessed… obsessed I tell you with pink and green. I think it’s from coming of age in the ’80’s. I’m actually contemplating painting my laundry room pink and green. But for now… I can covet and enjoy your fabulous tablescape. Hugs, Holly @ coconutheadsurvivalguide
