Creations, “FANtastic” Wreath

When I saw this red button and burlap ribbon at Hobby Lobby a month or so ago, I fell in love!  I thought it was the cutest thing EVER, and because I’m cheap, I decided to be patient and wait for it to go on sale.  HL puts their ribbon on sale at 50% off all the time, so wait for the sale and stock up then!  Originally I was thinking Christmas, but when I spied the black and white check, I knew exactly what I would do with it!

Make a Crimson Tide Pride Wreath!  My husband and son are both U of A graduates, along with much of the rest of Alabama, and football season is intense around here.  I went to college in California, but once I got married and moved to Alabama it didn’t take long for me to become a huge fan too!

This wreath is so easy, absolutely NO SKILLS required!  I used a straw wreath [$3.99].  Don’t take the plastic off unless you want to drive yourself crazy~ and just wrap the wreath with wide ribbon, overlapping slightly with each wrap and securing the ribbon occasionally on the back side with a T pin.

Keep the wrapping as tight and snug as possible

I used exactly 1 spool of this ribbon, 5 yards, and it covered perfectly.  I tucked the end under and secured it with several T pins on the back

This black and white base would be cute for oh so many kinds of wreaths so don’t be surprised if it pops up again sometime!

I made a simple 4 loop bow and wrapped the middle tightly with florist wire

I covered the wire with another piece of button ribbon, folding under the edges, and securing in the back with another T pin.

And then the bow is attached to the wreath with, you guessed it, more T pins.  Using these pins is not only fast and easy, but the ribbon or bow can be quickly taken off and the wreath can be changed.

It’s pretty cute just like this, but I wanted to make it just a little more exciting

The “A” is a letter from the craft dept. that I spray painted white and then added crimson polka dots.  The wood football  $.99 is also from the craft dept.  I did use  my glue gun to add these.

The touch down ornament came from the Christmas dept. at HL and is secured with a T pin.

I used this wreath as part of the centerpiece for the Roll Tide Table yesterday

  13. Um, so the “keep the plastic on” and T-pin tips just blew my mind away. That.Is.SMART. I am SO glad I found you at the Get Your DIY On party! I will be pinning this and running to HL to see if the ribbon is on sale!

    • Ha! Keeping the plastic on makes these wreaths so much easier to work with! I was at HL yesterday and no sale on ribbon, I’m hoping maybe next week. They have an app you can put on your smart phone that makes it easy to check the weekly ads and sales. You can also get coupons on it so you don’t have to clip and bring to the store! Happy shopping!
