Tablescapes, Early Fall, Italian Style

Like so many others, I am reluctant to say goodbye to summer…not the oppressive heat and humidity mind you, but the long summer days and the aqua Gulf Coast waters…Wishing I was viewing those waters this weekend, I got out my favorite Italian plates and started dreaming…

I was craving simple Italian style dishes for this late summer meal, Pasta Carbonara with Italian Salami, a flavorful Pizza with Zucchini and Red Onion, and an arugula salad with a lemon salt vinaigrette.

I found these plates and fish bowls earlier this summer and used them in Meditterranean Sea.  When Home Goods sees me coming I think their stock goes up~I swear I can’t get out of that store without buying something~or many somethings~

My favorite part about these plates is the uneven edge that makes them look like they were hand made.    See that blue handle on the right?

It belongs to this sweet little matching tray that I spotted on a later visit to a different Home Goods store.  It was meant to be!

It is perfect for holding the garlic oil, balsamic vinegar and lemon salt that I want to use to dress the salad.

The salad bowl was an unexpected find also~

The pattern is different but has the same Mediterranean feel and colors.

This is a great size bowl for tossing small salads~

The individual compotes are for a scoop of Gelato after the meal~

A piece of fringed burlap wraps the napkins for added texture, and the pumpkin napkin rings are a subtle reminder of the seasonal change…

I know it’s silly, but something about these plates just transports me to a sunny terrace in Italy…with a cool glass of a crisp white wine and some lovely pasta…overlooking the sparkling blue sea…

Stop by tomorrow, I’d love to share the recipes for Salami Carbonara and Zucchini & Red Onion Pizza with you~

Thanks so much for dreaming with me today!

Love the Italian plates, so colorful! Beautiful for early fall. We have a Marshall’s near us. They on;y have 1 and a half isles (short isles) of table wares. Home goods is pretty far away and sometimes they don’t have anything either. They keep telling me stuff came in but they sold it all. I think that must mean another tablescaper got the before me and bought it all (I would buy it all if I got there first). Go figure!

    • Ha! I know what you mean, I always feel like there is just one or two of everything. I read somewhere that you should ask your local stores when they get their shipments so you can plan a shopping trip then~maybe that will help!

Beautiful Italian tablescape. I like the colors of this china and it is so versatile. Your centerpiece of candles and colored pasta is a great accent to the theme. Have a good week!

  15. How pretty your Tuscan table is…..love the sunlight streaming across the table.

  16. Dreaming with you indeed…I was sitting on a terrace overlooking the sea, with Mount Vesuvius just across the bay…the sunset was perfection, by the way. Thanks for inviting us for a peak. Cherry Kay

I have a thing for Italian pottery so I’m liking your transition into fall table a lot. Isn’t it amazing the wonderful things you can find at Home Goods/TJ Maxx/Marshall’s. The TJMaxx close by has the most amazing housewares, much better than in Houston. My biggest challenge is resisting the urge to buy everything I like.

  18. Absolutely gorgeous! I always love blue and gold together, but the hit of aqua on those plates really makes them stunning. And how serendipitous to find the matching tray! I have a weakness for individual compotes, and I’ve never seen any like these — darling! The whole table is so inviting!

    • Thanks Tricia, I got those compotes on clearance at Pier 1 a while ago. They were only $1 each and I couldn’t resist them but didn’t know what I would do with them. I have used them so much! Not only are they great for ice cream, but a perfect size for holding a mini cupcake, a roll, salsa or dips, even finishing salt. Thanks for the sweet comments!

  19. Lana Austin says:

Beautiful tablescape with the awesome Italian elements…..I love everything, but especially the individual compotes….so delicate…..I also completely agree with you about summer…..I long for the heat/humidity of Alabama to be gone….but I will most definitely miss the long, beautiful days!!!

Love/hugs/blessing & please stop by to see my new Vintagesque blog re-design,

  20. This table has so many beautiful Mediterranean touches. All of your dishes blend so well together. I love those pumpkin napkin ring holders. Where did you find those? I sure know what you mean about HomeGoods. They have such amazing stuff. It is hard to leave without a purchase.

    • Thanks so much, I am so flattered that you, the QUEEN of shopping asked me a question! I got the napkin rings last fall at Hobby Lobby for 50% off. We don’t have all the awesome outlet shopping you do, so I have to resort to HL, CTS and my imagination!! Thanks so much for hosting every week!

  21. Vel says:

what a beautiful and inviting table! That dinnerware is a real treasure! Visiting from Stylish Interior!

  22. Rosie says:

What an inviting table! I started to salivate when I saw those Italian dishes: I absolutely LOVE colorful ceramics and you have done an outstanding job of coordinating everything! Your photography is wonderful also. The shadows of the day enhance your photos instead of making your scene look dark. A truly inspired post. Thank you!

  23. Marigene says:

Beautiful table…great colors for the beginning of autumn. Those dishes have wonderful colors.
    Have a fun-filled week, Jenna…

  24. Oh, this one is really close to my heart. I love anything that reminds me of the Amalfi coast. I’ve been working on a setting using Italian pottery, so this really resonates with me. The tie in to the pumpkins is the perfect transition from summer into fall, because the dishes still retain the feeling of late summer and the pumpkins hint at what’s to come. Once again, you found a way to mix the pumpkins with something unusual (the blues from the dishes) for a new twist. I like this one very much!!

  25. Kim says:

I missed this post last year! I love those plates, and the tray and bowl are perfect additions. Yes, fine those pieces was meant to be! Your pumpkin napkin rings caught my eye right off, and I’m drooling over those! The little compotes are adorable! So glad you linked this post with Tablescape Thursday so I could see it. 🙂

  26. Beautiful tablescape, love the new dishes!! I can’t wait for our HG store to open 🙂

  27. Bev says:

This table is gorgeous! Love all of the colorful dishes and your menu sounds great also.

  28. Marsha says:

Your Fall tablescape is so lovely. I love the color combinations and the textures. The dishes are gorgeous. This beautiful setting makes me want to kick back, relax, drink some wine and talk with great company just like in Italy.

  29. Barbara says:

What a beautiful table! It is just perfect for early fall. You have the cooling blues and whites of summer and then added the bits of orange. I have a problem with Home Goods too. Oh. My. I, too am enjoying the change of light this time of year.

  30. This is a fun setting. Great dishes! Love the pasta in the glass- great ideas!
