Creations, Wine Bottle Burlap Witch

Last week I posted about the burlap ghosts that Super Boy helped me create…. and you know how kids are, as soon as they finish one thing it’s on to the next!  I was curious if he remembered that he wanted me to make a witch~

“What are you doing with ice cream cones, Gigi?  Are we having ice cream now?”

“Remember last week you said you wanted to make a witch?” I asked,

“Ohhhhh, I know what you’re going to do with the ice cream cones!”

“I thought we’d paint them black along with some of this paper stuff for her hair!”

“That doesn’t look like hair to me Gigi…”

” Just wait,” I said, “you’ll see~”

“Go see if you can find me a stick and we’ll make her a broom.”  He came back with a fairly large branch~

“Great stick!” I said, as I broke a piece off and tossed the rest. “Let’s wash it and scrape it and it will look like an old broomstick,”

“Why do we have to wash it?” he asked, “It’s just for a mean ole witch!”

“Well, I don’t want a dirty stick flying around the house do you?”

“I dunno…”

“We’ll use this jute to make the sweeper part of the broom~ I’m going to wind it around my fingers a few times and we can put the stick in the middle~

then we’ll tie it with some smaller twine and cut the bottom loops.”

” I think it looks quite witchy, don’t you?”  He smiled, and proceeded to take it for a trial run, galloping around with the broom between his legs

“We’re going to make her body just like we did for the ghosts with the black netting, remember?  It gives her a head and helps fill out her body.”

“She needs a dress Gigi, and a cape!”   I hadn’t thought about a cape, now that’s a great idea!

“Yeah, I’m working on that…” says I,  without a clue as to what to do next.  To stall a little, and give me time to think, I said,

“Let’s put her hair and hat on, and then we can make her dress.”

“Her hair doesn’t look very good~” he said,

“Oh, but witches have terrible hair you know, they are absolutely famous for bad hair!

“Oh!”  He brightened up, “well in that case it looks great!”

“Let’s put her hat on!”

“It needs a bottom you know Gigi.”  I am pretty sure he feels like I need a lot of guidance at this point, he wasn’t quite sure of this witchy project at all.

“I’ll just cut a circle out of felt, it can be jagged and lopsided because this is a scary witch.”  He just sort of shrugged his shoulders, like if you say so…

He was starting to loose interest and at this point I didn’t really have a plan for her clothes, so he skipped off to play basketball for a while~

I had covered the base of black netting with two strips of burlap ribbon, criss-crossed at the top.  I ultimately decided to go with a white square of burlap for her dress, and formed a cape with a piece of black felt.

I turned one edge of the felt under about an inch and secured it with a couple of dots of hot glue.  This folded edge will form a stand up collar for the cape.

I wrapped it around her “shoulders” like a cape and secured it with hidden T pins

He’s still not so sure…

“Let’s try her next to her ghost friends,” I said, “and see how she looks~”

“Doesn’t she look great?”

“I think we need a Vampire Gigi!”

Yikes!  “You know what? Why don’t we wait until Halloween is over and then we can make a turkey!”

“But I don’t know how to make a turkey”, he said…”Well, I don’t either, but we can think about it~

“I bet my Dad knows how to make a turkey!!        Hey Daaaaaaddddddyyyy~”

Uh oh!
