Gifts from the Kitchen, Everything Cocktail Cookies

I have been playing with Everything seasoning a lot lately and couldn’t resist trying it in a version of cheese straws.

Traditional cheese straws get a kick from cayenne pepper and they are often too spicy hot for me. I know, I’m a whimp…

These are flavorful without the heat, a savory tasty treat.  They get plenty of pizazz from the minced onion and garlic.

Right at the end of baking I added some grated cheddar on top just to see how they would look and taste

Gobble Gooble!  They are equally good plain~the cheese really just adds a little color

The dough is easy to work with, you can roll it out and use cookie cutters to make cocktail cookies

or form it into a log and slice like cookie dough

You can make the dough up to a week ahead and keep it in the refrigerator.  Pop it in the microwave for 10-15 seconds to warm and then you can roll it out or into a log to slice

I love this recipe because you can make it in minutes in your food processor

Shred the cheese then switch to the mixing blade and add the flour, seasoning and cream and pulse until a dough ball forms. Then go ahead with baking or wrap and refrigerate dough until later.

For this “slice and bake” batch I experimented with a little Parmesan cheese topping on the cookies on the far right~

Three were topped at the beginning of baking, then I did several more topping during the last 3 minutes of baking time only.

You can see the color differences

I like the golden tone of the cookies baked from the beginning with Parmesan.  As with the cheddar turkeys, this extra cheese topping adds more color than flavor so it’s a personal preference.  Any way you shape or bake these, they are a delightful savory bite!

The cookies stay fresh and tasty for 3-4 days, keep them in a tightly covered tin or jar~

Perfect for little Gifts from the Kitchen too!
