Take-out Tuesday, Candy Cookies for Santa!

I wanted to make some Christmas cookies, and be all “fa la la” and “Mrs. Claus like’, baking in my cozy kitchen… cookies for our Christmas Eve party and cookies for Santa!
Sugar cookies with white chocolate and peppermint M&M icing!
How hard could this be?
The dough is really sticky so get out your flour!
I used a spatula and a knife to transfer the cookies to the parchment paper lined pans…
After this, things went a little downhill…after baking my stars were so puffed up they looked like they swallowed the Pillsbury Dough boy! My angels, the few that survived the cookie cutter process, lost their figures and I couldn’t bear to take photos...so embarrassing!
How can you screw up making sugar cookies from refrigerated prepared cookie dough?
Well, once they cooled, they shrank down to a less offensive shape and I spread on melted white chocolate and sprinkled chopped peppermint M&Ms on top
Piled up on a cute Santa dish, they don’t look so bad~and better yet, they taste AMAAAZING!
And I bet the kiddos won’t even care as long as they get one or three!
I think I’ll just leave Santa a shot of bourbon!
Here’s what I did:

CANDY COOKIES FOR SANTA
Equipment
- cookie cutters
Ingredients
- 1 large roll of prepared refrigerated cookie dough
- 1 cup white chocolate chips
- 1/8 cup half and half
- 1 cup M&Ms peppermint candy
Instructions
- Slice dough roll in half in the center. Roll out 1/2 of dough on a well floured board with a floured rolling pin and use cookie cutters. Carefully transfer cookies to baking sheets, a metal edged spatula and knife will help this. Re-roll dough and continue to cut out cookies and repeat with other half of dough. Bake cookies as directed, removing them from the oven when the edges just start to brown. Cool on wire racks
- Chop M&Ms coarsely with a knife. Melt 1/2 cup white chocolate with 2 T cream for 30 seconds on medium power in the microwave. Stir vigorously with a spoon until it is smooth. White chocolate seizes up quickly so be careful not to overheat. Sometimes a little more cream can save it if it gets grainy. Spread a little melted chocolate with the back of a spoon on each cookie and immediately sprinkle with crushed candy. Repeat with remaining chocolate and cream. Refrigerate cookies for a few minutes to set chocolate and then place cookies in a sealed tub or tin until serving. Can be frozen. Makes about 3 dozen, depending on size of cookie cutters used.
Change this up for any occasion with seasonal colored M&Ms, and melted semi sweet chocolate or butterscotch~
Ho Ho Ho!
