Home Decor, Pelicans and Sunsets and a little remodel

We went down to the Gulf coast to have a little down time after all the fa la la-ing
We met with our builder to finalize a little porch remodel
There is a little space on the west end of the front porch that is never used
So we are going to enclose part of it and add a half bath and a tiny bedroom.
I’ve got to get busy and figure out the details, they are starting next week~the bath is only 5’x5′ and I want it to be dramatic and fun. I pinned the above photo from sasinteriors.com
The bedroom space is big enough for a set of bunk beds and a chair…a sleeping place for the kiddos…but I secretly haven’t committed to the bunk beds….the photo is from Houzz.com
I’m thinking this would be a great office space or studio pour moi…but we shall see…
Stay tuned, there is sure to be lots of drama! If you want to take a tour of the beach house the links can be found here
The weather this time of year is unpredictable, after a solid day of cold rain, the next day was bright with sunshine and blue skies
When the thermometer reached 60 degrees we decided to take a slow boat cruise. Look carefully at the white splattered pier and the pelican topped pilings
These funny creatures take over when we’re not around
They entertain all their friends and have dinner parties that we have to clean up!
He finally got tired of me taking his photo and flew off for a while
Most of the boats are high and dry right now
But a warm sunny day will bring them out on the water in no time
We cruised down to the Florida Alabama state line and found the Dolphin Cruise boat all decked out for the holidays
with bright blue dolphins hitched to Santa’s sleigh!
We arrived back at the dock just as the sun was starting to set
It is always breath taking
the water turns pink and the sky gets a periwinkle blue
and sometimes it’s hard to tell what’s water and what’s sky
Stopping to enjoy what is right there around you is the best way to spend time, wherever you are~
a nice reminder from Mother Nature that each day is a new beginning~

Love the cruise photos. The sunset is spectacular!
Can’t wait to see how your plans evolve.
Hi lovely lady.
Your home right on the Gulf Coast is a dream come true for you!! I love all your beautiful photos you have put together of us to see. Thanks so much for your sweet comments on my Tablescape for New Years Eve. Hoping you and your family have a wonderful 2014 New Year.
Diane
Absolutely charming. Being on the water just calms the soul you can’t help but relax. Kudos to you! Happy remodel, the bunks look cute and fun.
Believe me….when it’s as bone-cutting cold and blustery and snowy as it is here right now, I have to really dig deep to enjoy what is around me. I mean dig REALLY deep!!!
Hooray for your remodel! I think our tiny bathroom on the main level is about a 5′ x 5′. It sounds really tiny, but it’s ample space to get in there, do the deed, wash your hands and get out! It will be fun to watch the space transformation and creative build-up! I’ll also be interested in seeing what you decide for beds in the small bedroom. Bunk beds seems to be a really great choice, but I could also envision 2 twins or even a trundle. I don’t know…I’ll wait to see what you decide! 🙂
Have fun out there sunning yourself in 60+ degree weather. We won’t be jealous here in the frozen heartland. No…..not jealous at all! 😉 Happy New Year, Jenna!
What wonderful inspiration photos you have! I can’t wait to see what it ends up like. The house is so beautiful and charming! We ran out of the cold for some sun too and how I am enjoying it! Built a huge sandcastle today! I will blog it next week. Enjoy the warmth and may 2014 be a wonderful year for you!
Jenna, how exciting! I’m really liking those bunk beds! The storage under there would come in handy. I can hardly wait to ride along with you on this project. Yes, it’s a small bath, but you will be so glad when it’s done! It’s a wonderful idea to use the porch area that you don’t even use outside. It’s so peaceful there, and beautiful. Y’all are truly blessed! 🙂

I came across your blog several months ago via a party link on Coastal Charm. I love your style and enjoy all your posts. Such beautiful photos of the coast. I have a home on the island 4 miles east of yours! Not a full timer yet so I get my island fix from your blog.
Happy New Year,
Mary
hi Mary! We’re not full timers either, but spend as much time there as we can! Thanks so much for commenting! I heard thru friends it was a balmy sunny 70 there today! We are bracing for 15 tonight in Bham, where do you live?
I live in Collierville TN, a suburb of Memphis. This morning it was 49 degrees, but the temps have been falling all day. We are headed to a low of 10 overnight with a high of 13 on Monday..brrrrr. It will be Wednesday till we are above freezing again! Stay warm!
Jenna, What fun to be able to cruise in January and take in the scenery and sunset! It’s been a mild winter for the past couple of years for us, but it’s been too cold lately to take even a slow boat cruise to no where 🙂 Despite the frigid temps, there some guys jet skiing in wet suits yesterday, they must have been Christmas presents, you gotta love their enthusiasm. Looking forward to your remodel ideas & plans!
Oh my gosh, seeing warm water is so different from the snowy pictures from so much of the rest of the country! Your photos are beautiful. Congrats on the remodel, sounds like it’s going to be a lot of fun.
