Creations, French Pastry Box
This is a quick fun project using Mod Podge, which is basically just Elmer’s glue
I have some little crates that are antique “wannabes” and I have been debating on what to do with them~
I printed out a French label from the Graphics Fairy. I really wanted to do a transfer method, but didn’t have any transfer paper and no clue knew it wouldn’t work on this rough surface.
After trimming it down I realized that I had no idea what I was doing wasn’t going to work so I trimmed some more
Me, of little patience, snip snip cut out as much as I could and placed the pieces on the crate. Mod Podge is so easy to use, just brush it over the paper cut outs, in smooth even strokes, making sure the pieces are well coated. Let the surface dry completely.
You are basically gluing the cutouts down. I didn’t love the white of the paper against the darker tone of the wood so I mixed some paint and tried to match the color of the box. I use a piece of recycled tin foil for a palette, it’s a great way to mix paint and toss it away but it is hard to see colors in the photos.
Your eye can fool you~you think the box is white until you look very closely, and then you will notice other colors and tones of the white. I saw yellow, green, brown, gray and mixed it with white until I found the desired color and carefully brushed on the white paper
These photo shows the contrast between the bottom pieces which I’ve painted and the top line which is still white
Up close it looks like I added too much color but from a distance it goes away. I didn’t color the cake plate because I wanted it to be white.
In no time at all I had a fancy little pastry box~
I think I’m going to have lots of fun playing with this little crate!

Oooooohhhhh….I am so excited about this!!! I have a few crates that I bought and want to “antique” a little bit. This is a great solution!!! I’ve never used that Modge Podge stuff, so I hope it turns out OK. THIS IS A GREAT IDEA!!!!!! I’m really happy! This will be a project for when it’s a bit warmer out so I can spread out on the deck and just have at it!

Thanks Alycia, Mod Podge is so easy to use, just get some foam brushes and toss them away once you’re done. It’s pretty much instant gratification, which is my favorite kind 🙂
