Home Decor, Mardi Gras

I came home from the coast last weekend with a raging case of Mardi Gras fever

I was about popping out of my skin to make a wreath

I already had made a centerpiece for the foyer table and decided to see what I could find on a little trip to Hobby Lobby.  Now they had plenty of stuff for every other holiday, but nothing for Mardi Gras!   Zero~Zip~Nada~

I did pick up a roll of Mardi Gras ribbon at the local  5&10 in Orange Beach.  Yes, they still have a local 5 & 10, and it’s actually called Al’s 5 & 10!

I shopped the garage for a wreath and decided the silver ball wreath, which I had just put away, after serving time from Thanksgiving through Valentine’s Day, would once again be just perfect!

When you’re designing something that will hang on a wall or a door, hang it up while you’re working on it.  That way you get the proper perspective as you’re making it

I had this sparkly clover in my St. Pat’s day stash

and more green Christmas ribbon

I borrowed some things from the centerpiece bowl~the fleur de lis is from a recent Besh Box

and it came together in no time at all!

I must tell you about my good friend who was crowned Queen at a recent Mardi Gras Ball! That is her crown in the photo above, she actually had to go to the crown store and have it fittedYes, there is actually a crown store in Mobile Al, and you can get your scepter there too!  Yes, you must have a scepter too! The crown has to be fitted because you must wear it the entire evening while you’re dancing and frolicking about…with your scepter!

DSC_4341

This is her scepter that she fashioned out of a Star Wars lazer toy stick from Walmart.  She said she is about to remodel her kitchen and didn’t want to spend money on such silliness, because she needed a new microwave… I was dying to ask how much the crown cost…

DSC_4348

This goat [cabrix] is the mascot of her Krewe…some jolly prankster stole it from the ball and put it on the Queen’s front porch!

DSC_4321

I heard through the grapevine that my friend’s house was decorated top to toe so I called and invited myself and my camera over~

DSC_4346

The porch railing was covered with ribbons and beads and the front door was a medley of fleur de lis’

DSC_4347

Come on in, you’ve got to see this!

DSC_4327

Her table was set for a dinner she was having for her court soon~

DSC_4328

Handpainted glasses [ahem], ceramic dinner plates [Mobile artist], silver wooden chargers and blinged out napkins

DSC_4330

Cocktails raining down from the sky

DSC_4331

A court jester looking down from above, it was all wickedly good fun!

DSC_4339

She had lavish packages wrapped and ready for gifting her court

DSC_4340

I felt a little like Alice in Wonderland, it was all so topsy and turvy and crazy royal fun just hearing about it!!

  1. Looks like a LOT of fun! Gotta ask my son if any Mardi Gras festivities are going on down in Center Philly:@)

  2. Your wreath is wonderful. I am fairly gobsmacked by your friend’s decor. I too would be wondering about that crown — it looks pretty fancy. I lived in NOLA during two MGs when I was 19 and 20 (long ago, far away, in another galaxy), and it was the wildest thing I have ever seen, but very fun.

Oh goodness Jenna, but I can see why your had Mardi Gras fever. What a transformation you did on your silver wreath to make it so festive and fun for a Mardi Gras theme. I love it!!

No wonder you had Mardi Gras fever. I almost got it just looking at all of these wonderful pictures. Your wreath turned out great. It looks like something you could buy in a high end shop. Your friend’s house IS decorated top to bottom and beautifully. What fun! You made me want to have a Mardi Gras party. laurie

  5. All of this was Mardi Fab!!

  6. Mary says:

Jenna, Mardi Gras fever is contagious, I caught it just reading this post, how fun! Love your festive wreath and your friend’s decor. Your handpainted glasses complement your friend’s table perfectly and are just the right touch for cocktails raining from the sky 🙂

  7. Kim says:

Looks like a lot of fun and a lot of fun decor, too! Thanks for sharing the Mardi Gras festive spirit, Jenna. 🙂

  8. Gee….I wonder what local artist could possibly have hand-painted those? I just have no idea. I’m thinking….thinking….thinking….nope, can’t think of anyone! 😉

Girl, the way her house is done up it would give even the most staid of Northerners a humdinger of a case of Mardi Gras fever!!! She went ALL OUT!!! I love it! I would love to be able to create that look at the front door…except the Chicago-like winds we have been getting here the last few years would have it all blown into the next county!!! I love the “raining cocktails”, too!!! What a neat idea!

You did a great job on your wreath! It’s got all the fun elements and TOTALLY says Mardi Gras!!! You’ve inspired me to possibly do one for our front door, although it will have to be much less 3-D so that it can freely hang between the storm door and the wooden one. That sucks so bad, but it’s a necessity of life here on the prairie where the deer and the antelope play! 🙂

Have a great week, and thanks for sharing all of this!!!

    • Yes, my friend is a decorating fool, she decorates for EVERYTHING, it’s almost exhausting! My front door is exposed to the elements too so my wreath is hanging on the bar, where I keep hoping for raining cocktails!

Oh my goodness, and to think that I had a great centerpiece! Your friend’s is wonderful, as is your wreath! How cute. I have a gold crown just like that one but I’m loving your little masked clown guy (not sure what you call those)
