Creations, Chalkboard Art “Recipes”

Whenever I do a painting or a project, I like to have a plan, a “recipe” if you will, sort of like a map to refer to so you know where you are going…

You can use your computer to make a collage of different words in different fonts, and add colors and shapes.  Of course you can draw or sketch this, but on a computer it’s so quick to change colors and move things around until you find a combination and composition you like.

I also look to Pinterest for ideas and fonts, and make printouts to refer to

I knew I wanted to start with a big C

and her name

This is my favorite font, which is so forgiving because you can go high and low and slant and turn, and can get the word to fit just about any space.

and then I added the “1”  and the “I love”  list

a birthday “candle”

and let the space determine the rest

changing the fonts and colors keeps things interesting

The Easter chalkboard came together in the same way,

I made and printed a collage of Easter things I liked by taking screen shots of free printables and pasting them on a document

I use chalk ink pens that I bought on Amazon.com

You can always add real chalk strokes too the chalk ink if you like a more chalky look~

I love these fabulous chalk boards and what a fun way to be creative. I can see this would be great for birthday parties and a great way to announce the menu for get togethers. Love what you did for the birthday girl…………….

  2. What fun chalkboards you have here. I always enjoy changing mine out and speaking of that, I need to change it out for Easter.

Love these chalkboards. Thanks for the inspiration. And what to use. Wish I had seen this before I went to the craft store today! I saw the chalk pens and drew a blank for a reason to buy. Next trip for sure.

Your chalkboard creations are all so inspiring Jenna! I especially love your Charlotte’s birthday one! I haven’t gotten the hang of those pens, so I’m still sticking to my chalk. I tried to add some highlights with them but they don’t seem to flow very well on my door. I think if I could lay it flat it would work better 🙂

    • Sometimes I have to push the tip up and down on a piece of paper to get the ink flowing again, the pens tend to get dry after a few strokes so try this~don’t give up, you will love them! I can’t get regular chalk to look like anything, while yours always looks wonderful!
