Yesterday I posted about a fabulous dinnerware giveaway, and when it came to putting away my Villa della Luna , I just couldn’t do it! It was too pretty to stash away in a cupboard~
I often create vignettes on the kitchen island with dishware and produce, especially at the beach where storage is at a premium
I often have a big bowl of potatoes, onions and garlic~
It’s kind of nice to have things so handy!
Garlic is a great thing to tuck about, it’s quirky shape will really pop out against darker colors~
It’s fun to find things that can stay out of the fridge, such as coconut and sweet potatoes
You can keep a stalk of brussels sprouts on display for several days
Red apples and bright tomatoes happily shared seats on the “flag ship” during last summer’s holidays
I just used a simple little trick for this centerpiece
I got this gorgeous bromeliad at the grocery store, but I didn’t have anything decorative to cover the black plastic pot
Find a pretty napkin or guest towel and cover the ugly plastic pot with saran so it doesn’t get the cloth dirty
Bring napkin up around the pot and secure it with a ribbon,string, or rubber band and poof it out, fluff and tuck…
I put the plant into a glass compote bowl for height
And a large round basket tray for a base keeps everything contained
Added interest comes with tucking in fruits and vegetables~vibrantly colored oranges, pears, cherry tomatoes
all there for the picking when needed
So grab a cup and have some coffee
It’s okay to play with your food!

Love all your creative and functional centerpieces Jenna! The vivid color in your bromeliad with your tomatoes and peppers looks so cheery and bright with the colors in the Villa della Luna, brilliant to disguise the pot in a napkin too! Playing with my food is one of my favorite pastimes 🙂

This is a great idea, Jenna. I know that there are many times I either don’t have the appropriate size/color/texture pot I want/need, and using a napkin or fabric to camouflage the ugly plastic pot makes sense. I also like the way you’ve incorporated everyday items into your decor. That’s another thing that just makes sense! If you have to have it and use it anyway, why not do something decorative with it?!
The old rule, form follows function makes sense. Not only do I like seeing fresh produce and flowers but you have cleverly made your pantry items a work of art, saved storage space and highlighted your pretty dishes.

Your posts always make me giggle! I live at the beach, where every sq inch has to work double time. Sometimes people ask “How can you live in a such a small place?” And I think “Well, there’s the beach” Everything is on display, can’t wait to hear what my husband says when I come home from Trader Joe’s with a stalk of brussel sprouts (which I love) and put them in a vase. Thanks for the bromeliad tip, I could have used it in my “Goal Brazil” post from last week. Anyway I think my favorite is the Black Rooster standing guard over the summer bounty! Again thanks for all your great tips and making me smile!
Thanks Wanda, it makes me so happy that I can brighten your day! Oh how I wish I had a Trader Joe’s nearby, you are so lucky! I did the brussels sprouts tree last year during the holidays and really enjoyed it, but the weather was cool, so watch it carefully at the beach, it might not last as long in your climate~
Beautiful! I don’t blame you for wanting to enjoy your china a little longer. The bloom is gorgeous with everything combined – pulls it all together perfectly. 🙂
