Recipe Box, Orange Glazed Shrimp and Scallops

Are you familiar with salt block cooking?

I gave my son a Himalayan Salt Block, figuring I might benefit 🙂 and this is one amazing way to cook!

I purchased this from Sur la Table, their description is found below:

“Each block is cut by hand from natural salt deposits found in the Himalayas. Naturally antimicrobial, salt plates require very little maintenance or cleaning—simply scrub lightly and allow to dry completely between each use. For best results and to help prevent cracking, pair with a stainless-steel salt-block holder. “

The subtle salty flavor that infuses the food is hard to describe, but after your first bite, your mouth is saying, “Wow!”

Definitely the best scallops I’ve ever had!

He made a simple basting sauce with molasses, orange marmalade, lime juice and honey, garlic and pepper.

If you don’t have a Pink Himalayan Salt Block handy, you can easily grill the seafood on skewers!

Orange Glazed Shrimp & Scallops

Ingredients

  • 6 Tablespoons molasses
  • 6 Tablespoons orange marmalade
  • 6 Tablespoons lime juice
  • 2 Tablespoons honey
  • 1 Tablespoon garlic minced
  • 1 tsp red pepper optional
  • 8-10 large fresh sea scallops
  • 16-20 raw large shrimp shelled and deveined

Instructions

  • Mix together all ingredients except seafood.
  • Microwave sauce for 1 min.
  • Heat salt block according to manufacturer’s directions. Place seafood directly on salt block and brush with sauce.
  • OR skewer shrimp and scallops and brush with sauce, and grill basting with sauce, until just done, being careful not to overcook.
  • Plan on 2-3 scallops and 4-6 shrimp per person.
