Do you decorate the same way every year or change it up? Last year I used cream, gold and silver, but this year I decided to add some red, inspired by these stockings I found at Target
I saw a tree at a local shop trimmed with cotton garland and all sorts of organic elements, pine cones, birds and owls~ they called it the “Alabama Tree”
What a wonderful idea, a tree themed to your state, or your hometown…
I found the cotton garland on clearance at Grandin Road after the holidays last year, and couldn’t wait to create my own Sweet Home Alabama tree this year. With the newly added red to my color scheme, this tree would practically decorate itself!
a 4′ pre-lit and flocked thin tree is the base
I wrapped it in the cotton garland
Now for the fun!
At the very top sits a red cardinal, which are a common sight in my backyard, along with a pinecone and white washed jingle bells
An Alabama “A” and some red and white stripped balls, mix in with the cotton and gold lettered gift tags
I found these pink pigs at Home Goods, and fell in love…aren’t they just the cutest?
they represent our Southern BBQ addicition here, in the “Heart of Dixie”
I added some red Alabama elephants and shiny footballs from my Football Tree
and ornaments fashioned from some Sweet Home Alabama beer coasters
For one last touch I added some chevron patterned state of Alabama ornaments
Gift wrap was glued on to a cardstock shape of the state, using the same method I used for the Advent Tree numbers here
I was planning to just pile some cotton around the base of the tree, and then I found this cute basket [$10] and couldn’t resist
The basket would be really easy to recreate~just a few buttons, cotton and some spray paint
Have you started decorating? I like to do a little at a time, slowly adding holiday touches here and there…
I got my supplies at

Happy Decorating!
