Happy February đ and Happy Super Bowl Sunday đ !
Now, just in case you have some time to kill before the big game tonight, how about working on a big BBQ meal to sink your teeth in while youâre watching~
Last weekend HHjr decided to make a complete Bobby Flay dinner extravaganza
Okay!
My husband and son have been doing so much grilling lately Iâve had time to tackle some big projects
Like painting a âButterfly GardenââŚ
Actually, these glasses are headed to a gift shop in Selma, Alabama.  They are expecting a lot of visitors because of the recent Oscar nominated movie about the Civil Rights Movement, and they asked me to paint the townâs name and signature butterfly on stemmed glasses. If you go to Selma, be sure to stop by Carterâs Drugs on Broad Street and pick up a little souvenir~
I also finally got up my courage to paint the secretary in our family room, you know with all this free time I had on my hands~ but more about that another dayâŚ
Because I was happily doing my own thing, I was not following HHjr around with my camera and donât have a ton of prep photos, but I did catch the brisket, coated with seasoning, on itâs way to the grill
Hereâs our menu derived from The Food Network show, Bobby Flayâs BBQ Addiction: Bobbyâs Basics, episode, Donât Mess with Texas BBQ here
The secret to cooking brisket is low and slow, on a covered grill to absorb the smokey flavor and develop a rich dark âbark.â   You can find the recipe for Bobbyâs Smoked, Spiced Rubbed Texas-Style Brisket here
You end up with a profusion of texture, the crisp, crunchy crust, and the soft tender meat within
It was served on homemade Texas toast, thick slices of bakery Italian bread, buttered, garlic seasoned, and toasted
with Pickled Red Onions, from Bobbyâs Texas Style Potato Salad here
homemade Easy Breezy BBQ Sauce [see recipe below]
barbeque style pinto beans
The beans are cooked with grated carrots, bacon, onions, some of the BBQ sauce, and the âburnt endsâ of the brisket for added flavor. You can see Bobbyâs Pinto Beans with Burnt Ends here
and grilled Corn with Maple and Chipotle here
Needless to say, it was a feast!
Juicy Details
Ask your butcher for a smaller brisket cut if you arenât serving a lot of people, this piece was just right for 4-6.
This is the sauce my son used, our favorite homemade sauce, it is so simple to make, you can put it together in under 5 minutes and then let it simmer for 15 minutes and itâs ready to go. You can also keep it for 2 months in the fridge, but it wonât last that long đ
Easy Breezy BBQ Sauce
Ingredients
- 2 cups white vinegar
- 1 1/2 cups Heinz ketchup [substituting another brand will change the taste]
- 1 1/2 cups packed dark brown sugar
- 2 T chili powder
- 1 1/2 tsp ground black pepper
- 1 T kosher salt
- cayenne pepper optional if you want more heat
Instructions
- Mix all ingredients in a non-reactive saucepan and bring to a boil over medium high heat.
- Lower the heat and simmer for 15-20 minutes or until the sauce coats the back of a spoon. It wonât be overly thick.
- It can be used right away or stored in a jar in the refrigerator for 2 months
Just in case your grill is covered with snow, get out your slow cooker and make some Peachy BBQ Chicken here
or an oven dish like Oven BBQ Ribs here.    You can enjoy fall off the bone ribs in as little as 2 hours!
If you need a super fast, crowd pleasing, meat lovers, appetizer, try these Bacon Wrapped Smokies here from Better Homes and Gardens [their photo] , little hot dogs wrapped in bacon and sprinkled with brown sugar, and baked
Get some BBQ something going to spice things up for Super Bowl Sunday!
