Home Decor, Lady’s Retreat, Color Your World!

HH has a huge “Man Cave” on the lowest level of our house, with everything a man could want.  It’s a great place for family fun,  but he often escapes there solo, just to relax.

Okay, well… I think I need a Lady’s Retreat~

I have been doing a happy dance, basically, ever since the decorating trend changed from boring neutrals to BOLD COLORS AND PATTERNS, HURRAY!!

I decided to flood the master suite with bright colors

The room is a soft warm green with black and white accents, and it’s   yawn, boring…

I decided to kick it up a bit with some more color

I looked at fabric online and created a Pinterest board here to collect my thoughts

It’s a great way to see how colors and fabrics will work together

I got a lot of inspiration from my favorite designer, kate…

I shopped the house and decided to try this black and white table from the foyer, and a pink and black patterned wing back chair that was gathering dust by the piano

Come on in and see what you think

Even though I used a lot of hot pink, the black and orange ground it, and the bold black and white stripes give it enough edge to keep it from being too girly

I used the front of the old pillows and hemmed them for mats on the night tables

I cut off the black and white fabric along the seam lines of the pillow cover and reused the black pillow back fabric for the new pillow covers

I bought a faux vintage clock and paired it with a French square plate

The green fleur-de-lis jar holds a stash of Godiva chocolates…you know for emergencies 😊

The table is just the right size for my laptop, a vase of flowers and a few accessories or books

I used every square inch of the fabric I bought

To stretch the last of the fabric, this little pillow has a contrasting stripe on one side

In the opposite corner of the room is an old faded chair  a well loved chair that I brought back to life with more colorful pillows and a hemmed piece of fabric laid across the ottoman, hiding the faded stripes

This is a great spot for reading or a quick cat nap

My house can be a busy, noisy place, full of boys and men~

Now I have the perfect spot to watch from a distance

Or to escape completely!

I am considering painting the backs of the doors, just for giggles, what do you think?

Drop by my friend Ellen’s Color My World here to see her awesome indigo door~

Juicy Details

fabric, clock, fleur-de-lis jar, bicycle plate/Hobby Lobby

I spent a total of about $75 for fabric, 2 pillow inserts, and accessories for this makeover

I highly recommend bringing some bright colors into your space, you will be amazed at how it will brighten your attitude!

Especially when there are 4 inches of snow in the forecast, and your city has already shut down, and your grandsons are spending the night,  and will be here until Sunday… my Lady’s Retreat is going to be very appreciated!

Thanks for visiting~

Love the bright and cheery accents of color you added Jenna! Your pillows with the pattern and polka dots add just the right accent to the soothing green matelassé and walls. Now get out your paint brush and create a colorful masterpiece for over your bed! Hope you survive your wintry blast, we’ve already had a taste and they’re forecasting the same for us starting tonight 🙂

Your new touches of color added to the room make it look so comfortable and cozy! I love the inspiration you got from Kate Spade! It is beautiful and great job.

You definitely gave your bedroom a cheerful, colorful touch, something we all need during these gloomy winter days. It looks beautiful. I love your arched doorways too! Such a lovely home.

    • thanks Lorraine, I am such a color person, it just makes me feel good~ we were so lucky when we bought this house over 20 years ago, it was a custom built house that the owners defaulted on so it went up for a quick sale by the builder and we got a great deal. We love love the doors. Thanks for your nice comments

My day is brightened just by looking at your colorful yet serene retreat! Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the mention! You know I love the bright colors, and you were so clever to reuse your existing pillow fabrics in a new way. I have always like that color for bedroom walls — it is very calming, something needed in a houseful of boys and men. I noticed your little elephant, and I realized I still miss mine. I had one once, painted it very colorfully, and it was so cute! Unfortuntely it got smashed when we moved from Texas. I need to find another. Great job!

I loved seeing more of your beautiful home Jenna. Absolutely love the changes you’ve made in the BR. Great new look on your chair and your desk and space is genius, love the idea. I think you should go for the color change on the doors. If you don’t like it you can always go back. I sure need to do a lot of spruce up here too, love your changes.

    • Oh thanks Emily! Ellen sent me a link to a decorator that has the most amazing painted doors, so with hers and your support, this little project is on go! Looks like we’ve missed the snow thank goodness!

  7. Oh, how beautiful it is! I love your bright pretty colors.
    Be a sweetie,
    Shelia 😉

  8. Your new color scheme is wonderful Jenna. I am trying to incorporate more color into the new house.

I can’t wait to see what you do with the doors.

  9. Kim says:

That’s fun! Why not have your own space? Those fabrics are completely y-o-u and lovely. I guess I’m ahead of the game because I never went to neutrals in the first place. An old friend used to say she was never out of style because she was never in style to begin with. Guess that’s me. :-/ Enjoy your new space, my friend!

  10. Love the colors you used…and I am so glad you have a space where you can retreat too!
