Time to paint some bunnies! What says spring more than a cute bunny hopping through green grass?
This “hopping bunny” is one of my original glassware designs and was inspired by this papier maché bunny
I have had him forever, no clue where he came from, and I have painted him over and over on lots of things~
It’s just 4 simple shapes
1. Using a fat round brush, like a #8 round, paint a shallow arch with one stroke
2. Add a round head
3. Start at the head and pull your brush up at an angle, letting the brush tip form the ear point
4. Keep the brush fairly dry for the cotton tail, this will add the fluffy texture. Use the tip of the brush and make a few small vertical dabs, straight down for the cotton tail
When white is dry, add a pink nose by dipping the handle end of a small brush into paint and then dabbing it on in a single firm downward motion. Use the bristle end of a small brush to add a swash of pink on the ear
Don’t forget to practice first to get the feel of your brush and the strokes. For best results you want to apply the paint in one stroke, you don’t want to overwork it
It’s also easy to paint a “bunny backside”
This bunny is also composed of 4 simple steps
1.Use a round fat brush, like a #8, paint a large brown circle
2. Add a half circle shaped head [like he’s hopping away from you with his head down]
3. Next add the ears, one up, one flopping over
4. Add his paws with 2 rounded rectangular shapes on each side of the bottom circle
When the paint is dry, add pink to the bottom of his paws, a little pink on the inside of his one flopped ear, and a bushy cotton tail using a few quick dabs with a fat brush
Add grass by loading a small thin brush with yellow and green and make quick uneven strokes wherever you want your grass to “grow”
Paint your bunny on a piece of decorative paper and frame him
I’ve also stitched this bunny
Whichever direction you’re going
It’s time to start hopping!
Juicy Details
Use paint specifically for glassware if you are painting on glass or ceramics. I use Liquetex Glossies. The bottle was painted with chalk paint, Annie Sloan French Linen, and the bunny was added with acrylic paint. You could also use paint pens or chalk ink pens
