I have been drooling over all the large chunky candlesticks trending lately, and decided to transform some to fit my style a little better
An eclectic group I know, but that’s just what I wanted, lots of individual personalities
I loved the shapes of these two, and the detail on the shorter one but I really wanted to make them all the same neutral color
Perfect candidates for makeovers!
One coat of Annie Sloan Old White, using a very dry brush over the details so the darks would remain
Instant change up!
Two coats of Annie Sloan Old White
I decided to paint the wooden one Old White too, and then have some fun with gold gilding wax, and paint
For projects like this, I might have a general concept in mind, but I let the details just sort of happen
First some bands with the gold gilding wax
then stripes and dots with a gold leaf paint pen and gold paint
NOTE: Do not wax over gold leaf pen or gilding wax, it might smear. Either wax carefully around it or add it after the final wax
For this one, I applied heavy dark wax on the lower part, less dark wax in the middle, and clear wax only on the upper third
I finished it with gold accents done with a gold leaf paint pen
I added some mercury glass candlesticks to the grouping for additional texture contrast
I left the tops of the candlesticks dark for contrast
You’re probably waiting for the candles…
Nope
This is going to be the summer centerpiece on the foyer table
Light, simple and sophisticated
It looks dramatic set atop the table’s column base
I love mixing gold and silver
And am always up for a little makeover~ 😊
