Creations, Custom Candlesticks

I have been drooling over all the large chunky candlesticks trending lately, and decided to transform some to fit my style a little better

An eclectic group I know, but that’s just what I wanted, lots of individual personalities

DSC_0017

I loved the shapes of these two, and the detail on the shorter one but I really wanted to make them all the same neutral color

Perfect candidates for makeovers!

One coat of Annie Sloan Old White, using a very dry brush over the details so the darks would remain

I decided to paint the wooden one Old White too, and then have some fun with gold gilding wax, and paint

For projects like this, I might have a general concept in mind, but I let the details just sort of happen

DSC_0025

First some bands with the gold gilding wax

then stripes and dots with a gold leaf paint pen and gold paint

NOTE: Do not wax over gold leaf pen or gilding wax, it might smear.  Either wax carefully around it or add it after the final wax

For this one, I applied heavy dark wax on the lower part, less dark wax in the middle, and clear wax only on the upper third

I finished it with gold accents done with a gold leaf paint pen

I added some mercury glass candlesticks to the grouping for additional texture contrast

I left the tops of the candlesticks dark for contrast

I love the touches of gold and make over from your paintbrush of your group of candlesticks! They looks so architectural sitting on your pedestal table and I love the little vases of blooms on each one 🙂

  2. These look fantastic! The perfect architectural compliment to the table. I bought one of those paint pens recently, and I am always running around trying to find something to gild next!

  3. Marigene says:

Those came out beautiful, Jenna. I some times pass up single candle holders at the thrift store…no more! I will be giving them a makeover ala Jenna!

  4. Beautiful!

Your painted candlesticks look fabulous on the gold tray. I love the look with the column, too. You’re right…sophisticated.

    • Thanks Kim, I love the way they turned out, I spent more than I wanted to but I will be using them in so many ways they will earn their keep~ Have a great week in this glorious weather! >

Your candlesticks look fabulous!! I am always nervous taking on a task like this, afraid I will ruin the already ugly thing I want to transform!! Doesn’t make much sense does it?? You have inspired me to give it a try!! Thanks much!!

  8. Sandra Garth says:

These are beautiful, and I too, will pay more attention to the single candlesticks at the thrift store!

    • Thanks Sandra! I was inspired by a photo I saw where all the candlesticks in a grouping were painted turquoise on a patio table, it was so attractive~what is your website, I’ve seemed to lost track? >

  9. Benita says:

The candlesticks look gorgeous. I like that they are all different — great visual interest! BTW, I am originally from Birmingham — lived there all of my life. 🙂 We moved to Dallas in January 2011 and to Nashville in Nov 2014 — hubby’s business!

I love the way you used the light color to tie them all together, and yet they each still have their own personality. Thanks for joining us at Talented Tuesday!
