Tablescapes, Lunch in the Garden

We have had so much rain this spring that my backyard is a jungle  botanical garden… I’m so sorry California, how I wish we could share with you~

My Garden Girl has been working overtime and doing a great job

We recently enjoyed an unusually cool and bug free day, perfect for patio dining

We can’t often eat outside in the summer because it’s simply too hot.   Our backyard gets no breeze as it’s a narrow area tucked between the house and the deep BUGGY woods

Besides the vegetable garden we have pots full of peppers, tomatoes, and lots of herbs

The lunch baskets are generously garnished with fresh basil and parsley

Don’t you think the smell of fresh basil is intoxicating?

Big E, our vegetable lover, has been keeping a close watch on the crops he can reach

He will happily polish off all the tomatoes!

As well as the broccoli and kale

We plant a lot of begonias because they are so forgiving

We have to plant things that don’t need much attention because we are in and out of town so much

My hydrangeas are finicky, some years they are covered in blooms and some years they’re not.  One year they bloomed in October….did I mention I am not a gardener   😳

So, I am turning over the hard stuff to HHjr and the Garden Girl

Your pepper plants look very happy, I wish my ‘peno was half that big! Glad you got a nice day to enjoy:@)

Be still my garden-lovin’ heart! Love this Jenna, with your herb embellished tray settings and all the bounty of your veggies and plants! We had a lot of rain in April, alas, no rain except for a brief shower this month. I’m lugging the hose hither and yon trying to keep containers watered in 80 degree temps. Your garden girl is doing a great job 🙂

    • When it stops raining I’ll be lugging the hose too, as our sprinkler system got hit by lightening and all the landscapers are too busy to fix it! I’m afraid our botanical garden will look like the Sahara Desert by mid summer!

  3. This is so cute! Love the lunch baskets adorned with the herbs. We haven’t had enough rain and then we cooled off so much we actually had a hard freeze. We will be planting this weekend. I know how it can be with the bugs. It’s crazy- we want to be outdoors- wait for the good weather then we’re chased in by those blood suckers! I can just imagine a rabbit up on this table having a field day!! Love it!

The wire trays are a brilliant touch! It’s the perfect tablescape to celebrate a garden. I enjoyed this glimpse into your lovely backyard.

I wish you could have seen my face as I opened your post! My jaw dropped! I just love your baskets with the plates and herbs. It was so fabulous. I would be tempted to leave those out in the garden all summer as they are so pretty and garden-ey!
I am not a gardener either – I just pretend and play around with it. But I blame it on very little sun in my yard!! I still like to play with it!

  6. Beautiful table! I love those baskets that you used for chargers. Genius idea!!

  7. Marigene says:

You are lucky to have a nice day to dine outside, Jenna…we have had some rain every day for the last 17-18 days, with the exception of today…but it wasn’t very warm.
Your plants look fabulous. I am not much of a gardener, either…and I hate doing the weeding! Yes, I love the smell of fresh basil…also rosemary.
Love the herb filled wire trays and those plates are gorgeous.
Have a wonderful fun-filled weekend, Jenna.

  8. Bev says:

Perfect table for the season…love everything about it! The herbs as decor on the plates is very sweet…will definitely be borrowing this idea.

  9. I can smell the basil! Oh how I wished you could share your rain with us – everything in my yard is dry and brown. I am changing the garden from lush green conifers and heathers to succulents this year (and I live in Northern California that is suppose to be wet….) I love your yard – I am so jealous. And your table is so cute (especially the chargers.)

  10. Your lunch baskets with the fresh herbs are so incredibly cute!! They caught my eye when I was browsing Tablescape Thursday! Too bad those woods are buggy and it rains a lot, otherwise I think that would be a nice place to eat outside all the time!

  11. Gorgeous tablescape! Love the setting. The plates look wonderful set in the trays. Love how you crossed the flatware. Best of luck with your plants.

  12. Emily says:

Love, love this post! Your garden girl looks so cute tending the garden. Great how you plant low maintenance herbs and veggies so no worries while you are at the beach. So pretty how you set each place setting in the trays Jenna. I couldn’t believe how cool we are now, I’m loving it and it’s great for working outside.
    Have a great weekend.

  13. This looks stunning! It makes me so envious you can put this stuff together already for your garden. We have freezing weather coming tonight and all of our plants have to come in. I’m convinced I’ll lose my morning glories. Sigh.

  14. Candy S says:

Jenna, I love the garden setting for your tablescape. The tray baskets are a great idea for patio dining. We like to have breakfast on the patio in the summer and those trays would make carrying everything back and forth so much easier. Of course “Garden Girl” is delightful company for your backyard diners and visitors. My flower beds are almost all perennials now, many of which are native to the area which makes it so much easier to take care of them. Have a wonderful holiday weekend….. Candy

  15. Danielle says:

Love how the table looks! And yes, I love the smell of basil! Thanks for sharing at Idea Box!

  16. I find the smell of basil and rosemary intoxicating! You are quite the gardner and lunch in your garden would be very relaxing.

  17. I loved your natural touches on the table! Thanks for linking up to Share Your Style. Amanda

  18. AnnMarie says:

Love, love, love your garden girl!! Your table and settings are so sweet. And yes, the smell of fresh basil is totally intoxicating to me! I actually have a lotion that has basil, olive oil and avocado in it…..heavenly.

  19. Jenna, I mostly see your beach home, so this was a fun place to stop in and visit!

  20. Jenna, I didn’t remember all the spring rain in 2015…all I remember is our drought last year. You definitely have some unusual garden happenings…hydrangeas blooming in October is new to me! Thanks so much for joining the Gardens Galore party!

  21. I can smell your basil through the screen! Delightful lunch setting among the herbs!

  22. lulu says:

In addition to all your other talents,it appears that you are also a pretty successful gardener. I like knowing that you grow a good bit of what you eat. That’s one of my real pleasures during the summer.
