The Organized Life, Storage Solutions

Happy Memorial Day!

We are practicing safety first with the “Harbor Patrol” on duty

I want to start by saying that my house currently does not resemble the photos below.   It’s been full of sandy, crumb-dropping, “toy tornadoes” all weekend, but I hope to restore proper order soon!

Since life tends to be MESSY  I thought I’d share some favorite storage solutions with you

Come on in, I’ll show you…

beach living room thepaintedapron.com

Our beach house has one main living space, completely open to the kitchen and dining areas, and while the kitchen has a lot of cabinets there still isn’t enough storage for serving pieces and glassware, says this “dish addicted plate-a-holic”     😳

beach storage thepaintedapron.com

Behind the couch there is a high sofa table which doubles as an eating bar and beyond that are two vintage pie cabinets where I store lots of goodies

pie cabinet thepaintedapron.com

These cabinets were designed to be able to let your pies cool  in the open air while being protected by close fitting spindles

My shelves haven’t seen any pies cooling, but they are perfect for plates, bowls, pitchers, and platters!

dining table thepaintedapron.com

Very handy to the dining area and kitchen

On the other side of the large pie cabinet is a rolling cart that holds baskets of toys on the low shelf

versatile cart thepaintedapron.com

and this round basket on the top is where I stash my linens

It’s easy to roll this cart out on the porch for serving refreshments for entertaining

hand painted tile topped cart thepaintedapron.com

and it can convert into a handy changing table! I bought it from a local artist [years ago] who hand painted the tile scene on top

towel basket thepaintedapron.com

This basket by the porch doors is full of beach towels and can easily be moved outside to prevent drippy suits from coming in

cord storage thepaintedapron.com

A small counter as you enter the kitchen is a charging station, with tall colorful bottles camouflaging the ugly cords and plugs

canisters thepaintedapron.com

The kitchen has a canister corner holding coffee, granola and baking needs

sink decor:storage thepaintedapron.com

The sink area is decorated with a serving platter, lanterns, and candles that are handy to grab for dining outside

kitchen island thepaintedapron.com

The large center island is the workhorse, plenty of space for goodies and fresh produce, as well as enough room for 2 cooks to prep, and people can still pass by

produce tier thepaintedapron.com

I try to incorporate produce that doesn’t need refrigeration so I can store in right here on the island.  It looks pretty and the whole house smells like summer fruit

bread basket thepaintedapron.com

Baskets are tucked into the corner by the toaster oven holding sippy cups and kiddo plastics and fresh breads

entry cabinet thepaintedapron.com

There is another vintage cabinet in the front entryway that holds glassware and extra dishes

entry hanging rack thepaintedapron.com

along side is a hanging rack and benches

spa bathe thepaintedaproncom

The guest bath has a basket tower, 8 shelves holding empty baskets.  Guests can claim one and fill it with their own toiletries and keep them out of the way but right there in the bathroom

master closet thepaintedapron.com

Baskets are used in the master bath for clothing storage and towels.  There are two laundry tubs on the floor, one for lights and one for darks, keeping the dirty laundry automatically separated and ready for the wash

and finally, more toy storage in the nursery, in you guessed it, baskets!

Juicy Details

You can see more posts on this house under Home Decor, Beach House

The baskets pictured have been collected over the years, but here are my favorite, and best priced sources:  Home Goods, Hobby Lobby, Michael’s, Christmas Tree Store

I’ve had the pie cabinets for a long time, bought at a close-out sale in a Birmingham store.  Believe it or not I did not paint them! These purple and blue chippy beauties were just a little ahead of their time and I scooped them up for a song

the rug in the great room is from Grandin Road

I hope I’ve given you some storage and organization ideas!

Jenna, I have kitchen island envy! Our kitchen is tiny and with guests we’re on top of each other here but so we have a one cook in the kitchen rule. It gives one of us an excuse to be outdoors. Love all your creative basket solutions and storage, especially in the guest bath! Your handpainted tile cart is so artistic and handy too 🙂

  2. And here I was, thinking you had painted those pie safes with Provence and Emile ASCP! Someone was ahead of her time, definitely. Your beach house is so breezy and inviting. The baskets are a wonderful idea. I used to use baskets to store things long before it became mainstream because when I was a single chick, that’s all I could afford! Now we all use them because they are stylish, fun and good-looking.

What great storage ideas! I’m loving the guest basket tower in the bathroom–I have a similar tall skinny space in mine…might have to use that idea! Thanks for sharing.

Jenna, you have such beautiful storage ideas. Every basket and cabinet you showed was not only functional, but attractive. You look so organized. Your beach house is the perfect place to relax. I also love the Harbor Patrol boat, but I’m not showing it to my grandchildren, or they’d be wanting one.

    • Thank you Laurie! I have to stay organized or this house turns into a mess fast! I got the boat on Amazon.com , very affordable, and still going strong after a busy weekend! Hope you had a great Memorial Day, I’m guessing you have been affected by all the horrible rain storms…we are getting hammered today~ >

Thank you for sharing your 2nd home with us, it is beautiful, and yes beach homes are small, but who needs a big home, you just et and sleep in them, before I became terminal, we would laugh at our selves when we went to the beach, we only needed a bed, I lost 10 pounds one week, just from driving and walking up the coast lines, we would drive to a town and then walk all the way through them when we got there, it was a blast, I cant do that any more, s I find myself trying to buy my happiness now and now have all this stuff, but that did not work, and as I turned back to GOD I was reminded that happiness comes from GOD and family, no I will never be able to walk the beach again, your beautiful little beach home, gave me happy memories. Thank you for the great ideas, and may GOD bless you with many years of happiness.
