Remember when there was a phone booth on every corner
And a newspaper on the front lawn
Now it’s all cell phones and computers
Those old days are gone
Campaigns slogans were promising a “Chicken in every Pot!”
Now it’s Immigration, Abortion, Oil Pipe line or not~
Remember when you’d write a note, just pick up a pen…
Today it’s all Facebook, email, and text,
What do you think is coming up next??
What’s in the future, what will be the new thing…
So many changes, what will next year bring?
No matter what the future designs
I hope we’ll always remember to take time to dine

Love the cheery green and pop of red with your black and white at the table Jenna. I remember my cell phone dying without my car charger and trying to find a pay phone about 5 years ago. There were none to be had 🙂 Your chalkboard menu bottle is over the top cute!
ha! The other night we lost power and my household was in total panic because all our devices weren’t charged~ and then of course you can’t get your car out of the garage 🙂
What an adorable idea adding the menu to a bottle!
Yes! And once a week the milkman came by and left fresh milk in glass bottles, eggs, and butter, and picked up the order for next week. Such simpler times!
The milkman! I totally forgot about him!! Now we can have our milk delivered by drone 🙂 >
Oh, I remember those days well, it was a great time to grow up! What a fun table, Jenna. Love the plates…you performed your magic on the stemware and bottles?
Have a great week.
Thanks Marigene, life seemed simpler then, but it probably wasn’t, we are probably forgetting no AC, no internet, no online shopping, no DVRs, all the stuff we can’t seem to live without now 🙂 >
Jenna, this post is a favorite. I certainly do remember! At times I regret that we’ve become so dependent on electronic communication. I miss handwritten notes. Remember the days when it was popular to see how many people they could squeeze into a phone booth? Ha, I’m so old, I can remember sitting in front of the radio to listen to a program for entertainment. Didn’t have TV till I was in 3rd grade.
Big smiles here on all the black and white details of this table. Darling salad plates! And your chalkboard wine bottle with the menu is adorable.
Great post!!!
Thank you Sarah, high praise coming from you! >
I love this! Of course I remember it all now that I am older than God. The wine bottle is a great idea for a menu board! That chicken and grape salad look yummy, too. I am going to check the recipes for those. I had some grape salad yesterday, and had never had any. It was really good. (AT Chick’s Chicken Salad, or something like that).
Ha ha, birthdays definitely can make you feel old~ I hope you had a fun weekend~ >
What a cute little poem and it’s so true! I was talking with my husband last night about what it technology will be like for our son, who’s 3 right now. It’s just crazy to think that it will advance even so more much than it already has!
What a cute poem and it’s so true! My husband and I were just talking last night about how crazy it is to imagine what technology will be like for our 3 year old someday. I can’t even imagine where the future will take us. :o)
Yep! All things to make our lives “easier” just make it more complicated 🙂
Your title made me think of the Alan Jackson song Remember When so I’m playing it as I read through this! Love the essence of this tablescape. The telephone box is so cute. I’ve got a ceramic version but it doesn’t open up and have glass. I do remember when all of those things like how telephones were available just about anywhere if you needed one. It’s all changed and it’s like a steaming locomotive in constant motion. I do love some of the new advances in life but I also remember when life was simpler and the pace was slower. I think the worst side affect of it all is everyone is so demanding now. No patience.
You are so right Liz, everyone has lost the art of patience and courtesy~thank you for your insightful comments~ >
Your tables are always so colorful and fun! Do you have an entire room dedicated to storing pretty dishes? I know it’s fun to mix and match… I love dishes, but just don’t have the space for lots of them….I may be a bit jealous.
Judy
I do have a china closet in the dining room where I store a lot of stuff, but I have mostly 2s and 4s of things, so I do a lot of mixing and matching. Some women have a thing for shoes, for me it’s plates 🙂

Love your cheerful, bright tablescape! The menu chalkboard bottle is just too cute… great idea! ~Rhonda
thanks Rhonda, I think I will be using the bottle a lot, and probably painting some more~ >
Wow, love your table. So bright and colorful. It really makes me smile all the wonderful detail you put into it.
Great Table!
I love the phone booth. This table is wonderful!!
This is so cute. I confess to remembering the phone booths and the news paper boy throwing the daily news. I miss those day. That’s when we could borrow sugar and eggs from our next door neighbor, and hang the clothes on the line to dry for the sweet smell of country air. I’m just glad we have the memories! All of your tablescapes are so cheerful, You must have such a happy cheerful spirit in your home because it shows!
Aren’t you the sweetest Linda! >
I remember phone booths everywhere, although I do still see plastic wrapped newspapers on some lawns!
I know, I still get a free local weekly paper that I don’t want, and it drives me crazy because all I do is throw it away, it’s like junk mail, I can’t get it to stop!!
love this so much an the phone box is definitely my favorite (wink). I invite you to share at the Thursday Favorite Things blog hop. Hugs!
Thanks Katherine! >
Love the table Jenna, The place settings are so vibrant and eclectic, they shout out that they are perfect for whatever the future brings. We still have a pay phone at the corner of the street (I don’t know if it actually works or not) and Dear Hubby gets the paper (it’s only delivered three days a week now) he reads darn near every word of the daily news. I only read the ads on Sundays and of course I use the coupons. I have been getting ninety percent of my news off of the internet for many years now, the other ten percent of news came from the Jon Stewart show. I will miss that guy!
Yes, good ole John Stewart, how we will miss him! Thanks Candy! >
