I recently bought an inexpensive narrow white ceramic rectangular tray
When I unwrapped it I saw a big chip on the corner…Aghhhhh…I could take it back to the store, or much more fun, give it a make-over!
Since gold is such a hot trend in accessories right now, I raided my craft supplies to find small tiles, glass beads and gold jewelry, to make a collage over the chip
I just started gluing, beginning with covering the chip and then spreading out from there
I didn’t want to over do, just a little jewelry collage in 2 opposite corners of the tray
To finish the piece I added a small gold dot edge
Using the handle end of a paint brush, dip in paint and then in a vertical motion place the paint covered tip on the surface and remove, forming a perfect dot
Don’t worry if each dot isn’t perfect, that’s the charm of hand painted pieces
A glamour tray like this would be pretty in a powder room to hold soaps or hand towels
Use it to serve party hors d”oeuvres or as a bar tray…
So think twice before you toss that chipped plate or platter
Glam it up!!
Juicy details
Good sources of white serving pieces: Target, At Home, Old Time Pottery, Christmas Tree Shoppe, World Market, BBB
I used pieces of old jewelry, glass beads, and small tiles [look at Lowe’s or Home Depot]
I used hot glue so pieces would instantly stay in place.
I used gold acrylic paint for the dots
Pieces like this need to be handled with care and hand washed. Do not place any embellishments near the area where food will be served
