Home Decor, Christmas in Red, Black and White & Tree Skirt Tutorial

I really loved our family room last year, Cotton Christmas, with the cotton tree and garland, red stripes and black and white

Cotton Christmas

I didn’t change much, but tweaked it here and there…the “happy Holidays” sign is actually a gift bag

Holiday mantel

The gift tags tucked in the garland are subtle reminders of the sentiments of the season

Oh if we could have peace, there would be so much more Cheer~

Nothing says Alabama more than cotton, red and white… [and little pink piggies for our love of pork]

I haven’t wrapped many packages yet, or put ornaments on the tree  😳

But they will be wearing red white and black

Super Boy and Big E are here all the time,  and their Elf on the Shelf elves, “Gumdrop” and “Minty,” are always in their backpacks, watching over them, and ready to hop out for mischief…they’ve already found the clementines I see…

And hopped on the train

And into the Santa boots and gift bag on the hearth!  Pesky Elves!!

studio decor

I made a little impromtu tree for my studio, with ornaments that symbolize my blogging, a mix master, a camera, and a typewriter

Christmas bar

Things are jolly around the bar

The music room is full of boxes, and the garage is a mess, but for Dec. 10 I’m feeling pretty good…

Tomorrow is my birthday 🎈 so I’m going to relax and hope the presents wrap themselves  🎁

and the garage gets swept  and the boxes get put away  💅

and the tree gets decorated 🎄

and the kitchen floor gets washed 💦

and someone makes me those Chocolate Bourbon Pecan Pie Cupcakes  🎂  I’ve been craving…

How are your holiday preparations coming along?

Easy Tree Skirt tutorial

Fold, fold, cut, hem, done

You need fabric as wide as possible, 60″ is ideal.   Get the same length of fabric as width:  if you’re fabric is 60″ wide, then buy 1 2/3 yards [60″]  I actually just bought 2 yards and trimmed the excess for another use.

Fold fabric in half, and then in half again, forming a square

With tape measure measure the length of the side of the square [mine was 29″]  Pivot the tape measure from the apex of the square making a chalk line forming a quarter circle

Cut along the chalk line

Repeat this process, keeping the fabric folded, measuring 4 inches out from the apex of the fabric circle, making a smaller 1/4 circle line.  Cut this for the skirt center

Make a straight cut from one edge of the circle to the center to make the skirt opening

Sew a trim or hem fabric all the way around to finish.  I used a stretchy trim so it was easily sewn along the circular edge
