Creations, Painting Roses

rose glasses

Since Valentines Day is on the horizon, I thought it might be fun to paint some roses

The rose itself is a complex creature, layers of petals and color tones

It’s all a matter of simplifying, breaking down the shape

The simplest “rose” is an oval or circle shape with an “e” inside, like this one I made in PicMonkey

For this simple rose, I usually modify the circle into more of an oval

Another easy rose is made with a combination of petal strokes.  I used red with a little pink.  Using 2 colors adds interest, just load them both on your brush and let them mingle themselves as you apply the paint

The addition of leaves makes the flowers come to life

Do a practice sheet of leaves, letting your brush make the shapes naturally.  Once you get a feel for your leaves, load your brush with yellow and green, or 2 shades of green and make quick simple strokes

You can also vary the placement of petals to give your blooms a little attitude

I wanted some glasses for an upcoming Valentine’s tablescape.  I was inspired by looking at MacKenzie Childs glassware

and my new MacKenzie-Childs cake stand

and wanted to use red for Valentines Day

Petals first

White painted bases

Black stripes

Black checks

Another row of checks, and green leaves

Then some gold dots  for finishing touches

Cheers!

And don’t forget PicMonkey, there are endless possibilities there too…

You can make your own stylized roses, free,  or chose the more realistic blooms and stems  if you have a Royal account.

Life is short, fill it with roses!

Remember, if you are painting on glass, you must use a paint specifically for glass, like Liquitex Glossies.  Once painted and cured the glasses are dishwasher safe

Take time to stop and create some roses…  🌹
