Creations, Football Table Runner, Banner & Healthy Dip

Freezer paper, masking tape and a little green paint and you have a football field table runner

painted football field

I have been thinking about painting a more realistic field on a big board that would fit over our pool table for game day, but since I haven’t gotten around to that, I decided to try a paper version

DSC_0025

Nothing complicated or fancy, just a length of freezer paper taped with masking tape*

*I tried Frog tape first but it tore up the paper.  Masking tape did a little too, so you have to be careful and not press it down too hard

DSC_0024

I used green acrylic paint, and yes it will make the paper bubble a little from the water content, but I decided that would just make the “grass”  look more realistic  😳  Freezer paper is coated on the back side so it can tolerate paint

The tape was trickier to remove than I planned, and some of the edges got messed up

But after a little touching up, they were fine

I was going for more of an impression than a realistic field, but you could of course space the lines further apart and add the 10 20 30 40 50 yard line numbers

Once the food’s on the table no one will notice!

popcorn

Popcorn is a welcome addition to any sport watching, and with just a little salt, it’s a healthy option too

The star of this show is the Caesar Salad Dip with Salami Chips

Combine to make a crunchy creamy dip, that is mostly vegetables

Top with a little shaved Parmesan for that Caesar kick

Serve it with crisp romaine leaves and salami chips

salami chips and dip

Salami chips are simply salami slices with the fat cooked out

salami chips

Put thin slices in a skillet over medium heat, but do not walk away! Once they begin to cook, they brown up quickly so keep your eye on them, flipping occasionally until they begin to crisp

Spoon some dip on the salami chip, and eat it like a mini taco

There’s still time for plenty of football fun!!

You can find freezer paper where you find foil, plastic wrap, baggies etc.  It makes a great thrifty decoration, and after the party you can just toss it away

Last year I used it to make a runner for Oscar night

and a treasure map for A Pirate’s Tale

You can write on it, to label ingredients for a Popcorn Bar
