Take-out Tuesday, Easter Egg Hunt Candy Cookies & Vignettes

Did you have an Easter celebration last weekend?

Our two youngest bunnies were invited to an egg hunt at my friend’s house with her little bunny

She hid eggs of all sizes throughout her front yard

Look, over here!

This way!

Look what I found!

Over there Charlotte!

I got it!

What’s this Daddy?

It started to sprinkle so Baby Boy hung out in the back of the car and ate puffs

Then we walked through the gorgeous side patio full of palms, ferns and weeping willows to the pool deck

For some more Easter fun

And a tea party with the adorable French bull dog Beau

And then it began to hail!

hail

Quite a phenomenon on the coast of Alabama in March, ice covered grass and sand…

So while we were waiting for a break in the weather, we were treated to a peek of the Easter vignettes inside

Easter tree

My very brilliantly creative friend goes all out for holidays, you can see a sample of her Halloween decor here and Mardi Gras here

Easter vignette

This fabulous egg tree was made of fresh branches and ferns, and hung with vintage eggs, cards and ornaments, and guarded by Peter Cottontail himself

vintage flower and egg vignetter

The vignette continues across the counter top with old photos, cards, nests with more eggs, baskets and bunnies in a field of dried hydrangeas and silk flowers

Easter bonnet vignette

Nearby stands a beautiful old wooden church and silk flower covered hats from her mother’s vintage collection

Easter chandy & centerpiece

The dining room chandy has been draped with flower covered vines and hung with eggs of all sizes

With a large egg nesting in the middle

Easter rooster decoration

My favorite vignette was this ceramic rooster sprouting an egg tree of branches, bird’s nests  and hydrangeas

Fabulous!

Easter Egg hunt bars

We brought some Easter Egg Hunt Carrot Cake Bars to our hostess

To thank her for our afternoon fun

I got the recipe and cute serving idea from Mary at Home is Where the Boat is.  The flower petal cupcake papers are from Target, and I made the tag with PicMonkey

Easter egg bars

It’s a great 7 layer bar type recipe to use up those leftover Easter candies

I discovered that if you “hide” the eggs underneath the coconut, chocolate and butterscotch chips they won’t crack like they do if you put them on top

You can use carrot cake mix as Mary did here, or use any cake mix or other base, and candy combo you like

7 layer bar recipes are so EASY to make and a great way to use up leftover candy, here are some of my favorites:

Christmas Candy Squares have a crushed pretzel base

5 Minute Trick or Treat Bars have a graham cracker crumb base

Chocolate Cashew Pecan Bars feature a crescent roll crust

Bad Boy Birthday Bars have a potato chip crust for a sweet and salty treat

And if your perfectly pretty “eggs”

Crack after baking, you can always call them Hatching Bird’s Nest Cookies!

Did you know that you can keep M & Ms in the freezer for up to 16 months?  I love to stock up on the limited color and flavor editions to use in cookies or snack mixes for showers, football parties and other theme events throughout the year

Be sweet!

Jenna, Your two little bunnies are adorable! I bet Miss C is just the right age to enjoy the thrill of the hunt, I love that head of curls 🙂 Your friend’s Easter decorations are so festive and I love that she decorates with some vintage Easter bonnets too.

I’ve tried to hide and store M&Ms in the freezer, alas, it doesn’t work if you live with a M&M fiend…. 🙂 Your Carrot Cake bars are so cute blooming in your petal cupcake papers, thanks for the shout out! The weather is always so unpredictable and crazy in March. We’re having our driest March on record. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that April showers will bring May flowers.

I am in decorating Heaven and Sugar Heaven here! We used to have an Easter Tree growing up and I had one for years with the kids, but haven’t done it in a while. I need to do one next year – not as early as this year – I already looked it up! Hooray!
I have lots of candy left and these goodies are really tempting me!
I can’t believe the hail! Wow, but it makes for a memorable year!
Looks like you had a wonderful Easter.

  8. lulu says:

I think I like Easter better than Christmas because the kids have to look for things and are so excited when they find them. Not much candy left here as the boys ate as much as they could before someone said ENOUGH!

  9. Rosie M. says:

Oh, Jenna, it looks like everyone had so much fun on the egg hunt! LOVE your recipe ideas (not much candy left this year, but your recipes are going in my file, and I’ll be using them next year BEFORE the family hits the house!). Many thanks! Rosie @ The Magic Hutch

  10. Lisa says:

I love seeing all the littles enjoying their Easter! They are so sweet. That Easter tree is just gorgeous! What a statement piece!
