Home Decor, Instant Decorating

This painted vintage window hangs in one of the beach house bedrooms

Brightly colored Caribbean cottages are painted on the window and flanked by similar metal cottages

This room is also where my daughter, “Miss Gray & White,” and her husband sleep when they’re here

I just found out she hates the bedspread   😳

After noticing she had a white cover on this bed one day  I asked “Why did you bring your own bedspread?”

“I don’t like that quilt, the material feels funny” she said  😝

😱  I was shocked

When I got the quilt and shams a few years ago I picked them out because it’s sort of a purple-gray & white, reversing to yellow and white…I thought she’d love it!

“Oh!” I said, “I had no idea!”

As much as I’d like to wiggle my nose and have this room instantly repainted and transformed, I did the next best thing…

I went cyber shopping with a cocktail and a view  🍹

Don’t you just love instant decorating?

Eventually I want to change out the artwork, and paint the walls and the dressers, but in the meantime, I just made a tiny adjustment to the decor with a little paint

I changed the purple houses on the window to navy blue

I painted over some of the colors on the metal houses so they would match the new navy and white

The photo makes it look black but it’s really navy

The room is also not quite as yellow as it looks in these photographs

I shopped the house for other blue & white accessories

Just for fun I painted the room and dressers with the PicMonkey draw effect and added a PicMonkey mirror and my Glass Filled Lantern

I am working on a large acrylic lobster trap buoy painting inspired by this one from Trip Park, maybe it would look good

Or maybe I could just hang this “Beach Chairs” painting

hmmmm….I think I’m going to tell DD and NG to pack their paint brushes next time they come    😉

  1. Love the changes you made. Those curtains are stunning!

  2. What a fun change up, including the Picmonkey play (I didn’t realize one could do that, hopefully with the basic version)!
Looks terrific, Jenna. I like the way you tweaked the Caribbean village painting, and your two other ideas are both good ones too. Maybe just do them all!

Very pretty room! I love the new bedding and drapes.

  5. Emily says:

Jenna, your room before was perfectly lovely but I really love the new look in the bedroom. I love navy, especially at the beach and your room really pops. The bedding and the changes to the window and little houses sure make a big difference. Yes, I love online shopping and I love having fun at PicMonkey too. Beautiful bedroom…………

  6. I hope your daughter likes the transformation as much as I do. It looks beautiful, love navy, white and yellow!

  7. Ellen says:

You can just shoot me now, but I love the yellow! Especially accented with blue. In my last house I had several yellow rooms in different shades. In my current house, the smallest upstairs bedroom is yellow. I had thought I would always have a yellow living room, but in this house, the room is so dark naturally, the color looked muddy so I settled on the green. Really funny about your daughter bringing her own bedding — I always bring my own pillow. (I love your painted window art!)

  8. Jenna, it was lovely before, but I love the blue and yellow now…stunning! It always works. Hopefully your daughter will like it! Happy Wednesday!

  9. Jackie Smith says:

so glad you changed bedspread I hated it! Now it looks beautiful in blue, your daughter was right!

Oh, Jenna, you are tooo much!! Love the way the room turned out (am drooling over those drapes!). Also love your window art, and would hate to see it go. I’m sure this space will be a hit when your daughter and hubby get there!! Rosie @ The Magic Hutch

Love the blue and white quilt and the drapes, Jenna! Everything really looks pretty with the yellow…so cheery!

  14. Leslie Anne Tarabella says:

Absolutely love it! I am a total nut for navy and white, but I swear, if you let me sleep in your pretty beach house, I won’t complain about a single thing!

  15. Mary says:

Jenna, The blue and white looks so pretty with the yellow walls and the sand dollars are perfect for your coastal home! I had to chuckle over her bringing her own spread…having her bring her paint brush when she comes to visit is a great idea 🙂

  16. Stacey says:

Oh my gosh, your painted window is the cutest thing ever and perfect in a beach cottage!

  17. Kim says:

I love your vintage window houses! Your window reminds me of our trips to Bermuda. I love the little colorful cottages there, and reminders of those trips are special and fun. The new bedding and curtains look great, and you’re so good to do a redo to make your family comfortable. And, you found a perfect fix for your wall decor! Love it!

  18. Laura says:

I love your painted window- and what would we do without instant decorating?

Love the sand dollar quilt both colors and design. Weren’t you clever to “shop your house” and to touch up the colors on the other accesories in the room? Love it! Thanks for sharing with us at Creatively Crafty #ccbg 🙂

  23. Sandra Garth says:

One of our bedrooms has been designated the “blue” room since our boys were little. They’ve long since flown the coup and the room is ready for a makeover. Love the blue and white you have here and I keep finding out more and more things I can do with PicMonkey! Thanks for joining us again this week at Celebrate Your Story.
