Okay y’all, it’s officially fall!
So the calendar says, but we’re still in the 90’s in Alabama… 😅
But pumpkins have arrived 🎉
I couldn’t resist a centerpiece using the hand painted pumpkin table runner before I send it to the giveaway winner…
Yep! Today’s the day!
The winner is Julie! I will be emailing you, Julie, to make arrangements to get it to you
Happy Pumpkin Season!
I have had lots of inquires about the arched doorways in my house, so if you’re interested, stick around and I’ll give you a quick tour
Psst…please pretend that all the walls are freshly painted in trendy colors and that the bar stool fabric isn’t so 1980 and that the dining room has totally been updated and that the rugs are priceless antiques and that light fixtures are super hip…brass is back you know…
From the front door you enter the foyer, my favorite room in the house
Being open to the upstairs, it gives the house a great feeling of space throughout
We use the foyer as an auxiliary dining room, living room, play space, and most important of all, for the Christmas Tree
It features a winding stairway to the balcony bridge connecting the bedroom wings upstairs
The stairway splits at the landing with another stairway leading down to the kitchen
Just inside the front door to the right is the music room
The 1907 Steinway baby grand piano is a family heirloom that belonged to my Auntie Mame Aunt Esther, oh the stories this piano could tell!
An arched door coat closet and the entrance to the master hall are just past the music room
Across from the music room is the formal living room
Not so formal any more!!
Thank goodness for doors!
We are a multi-generational household these days, HHjr lives here, and his sons spend between 2-5 nights a week with him. We are spending so much time at the beach now, it works out beautifully… he maintains the house and property and HH & I can go back and forth as we please
Psst, not only does HHjr own an in-demand remodeling business, he is a great cook, a whiz at housework and can fix anything…so this arrangement has a lot of perks-
Just past the living room is the dining room
Kim from Curtain Queen Creates asked me about my dining room drapes, they are lined dupioni silk, with a fixed balloon valance over tightly sewn pleats that fall into a big puddle of fabric on the floor
The “Alice in Wonderland” jeweled rod ends aren’t very visible, but they are my secret pleasure
A sliding pocket door from the dining room connects to the kitchen which circles back through another archway to the den/family room
The archway on the left goes behind the bar, with another archway exiting the bar by the patio door
From the den, you’re back to the foyer
and the master hallway to the powder room and bedroom
The master bedroom and bath both have arched french doors like the living room and music room
and here we are back to the foyer again
This is not an official home tour in anyway, we have lived in this house for 25 years, and there are many things that need redoing…but we love it, it’s plenty big enough to share, and we are enjoying the opportunity of helping raise our grandchildren…there’s rarely a dull moment…
Thanks for stopping in today, and stay tuned for another Painted Apron giveaway soon!
