Fearless Friday, Birthday Fun

Prayers, Prayers and more Prayers for those affected by Hurricane Matthew…

You don’t have to be an artist to paint a little birthday on a glass, or a jar or on a handmade card

This is a simple “birthday cake” design

A squiggly line

img_4235

Paint a squiggly line around the glass or across the surface

img_4236

Practice on paper first if you like

img_4239

Brush strokes will be smoother on glass than on a rougher surface

A squiggle around the base

A row of big polka dots

Birthday candles

img_4242

Candles need a flame

img_4243

Use a fat, brush {like #6 round} and start at the base making the flame shape by turning the brush and finishing with a point at the top

img_4246

If you make a mistake or have a dribble on glass, you can either wipe it right away with another brush, or damp Q-tip, or let the paint dry completely and remove the unwanted paint with an exacto knife

A row of decorative “icing” is added with angled short strokes with a flat square brush

Ok, time to light those flames!

img_4251

Add a quick stroke to the middle of the dry orange flame, then use the other end of the brush to add some yellow dots

This is such a cute idea! I was thinking this would be a cool idea to paint on a trifle bowl, too. I would never have thought of using the wavy lines for a cake, but it totally works. Love your tutorials!

such a neat idea, and even I could do this! Thanks for sharing!

  6. Sandy Park says:

Jenna, what a fun tutorial. Thanks for the painting lesson. I think I can do this. The only thing I paint is my nails, so could you please tell me what type of paint you use? And does the paint come off when you hand wash them? Thanks, Sandy

    • Use any kind of craft paint or acrylic paint, which is washable on your skin but not on your clothes. Click on the highlight link at the bottom of the post under note, to go to amazon.com and see the recommended paint for glass. If you are painting on fabric that will be washed, like a hand towel or pillow cover, it’s a good idea to mix fabric medium into your paint so it will be better suited to fabric. All these things are available at large craft stores and Walmart. Happy painting Sandy! >
