Party Panache, Birthday Weekend with Spooky Snack Buffet & Skellie Bone Bites

birthday-present-vignette

We combined birthday celebrating with a little spooky Halloween fun last weekend

The Hospitality Buffet we used for guests earlier this fall was such a hit, I decided to use it for a family birthday weekend

A  chalk board birthday sign was front and center

And a funky festive flower vase

On the lower part of the island, the theme morphs into a spooky scene with Halloween pumpkins, a witch and ghosts

The hit of the weekend were these Skellie Bone Bites

Tempura battered fried cheese curds

Nothing spooky about these, just bewitchingly good!

tempura-cheese

The tempura batter is so light, these are nothing like heavy fried Mozzarella sticks

Note: cheese curds are a little less dense than block cheese, but a good Vermont white cheddar cut into logs will work fine.  I bought the cheese curds at Target in the deli section

Skellie Bone Bites aka Tempura Cheese Curds

Ingredients

  • tempura batter mix
  • cheese curds or white cheddar cheese cut into fat logs
  • beer for batter optional
  • dipping sauce

Instructions

  • Prepare batter mix as directed, substituting beer for water if desired.
  • Dredge cheese in batter and fry in medium hot oil 2 minutes, or until batter is crisp.
  • Drain on paper towels and serve with a dipping sauce such as ranch dressing or marinara sauce. Make a lot, they will go quickly!

birthday-menu-3

The menu was made with PicMonkey, and printed out and posted for guests to see what’s cooking!

Coming up I’ll be sharing the recipes for:

Sour Cream & Chive Bacon Dip, Blueberry Shortcake Bread Pudding, Butterscotch Cake Bars

click on the recipe titles below to see the other menu items

Short Rib Tacos with Asian Slaw

Rosemary Parmesan Sweet Potato Boats

Tipsy Witch Ice Cream

Sweet Chili Glazed Shrimp

Tater Tot Bake

Pumpkin Patch Salad

All these recipes were chosen for ease of preparation.  I planned the menu and decor in advance with the help of this Pinterest board to collect and organize my thoughts.  Grocery shopping before guests arrived made this food-filled weekend a breeze, along with lots of helping hands…

Thank you for coming to the party!
