Party Panache, Birthday Weekend with Spooky Snack Buffet & Skellie Bone Bites

We combined birthday celebrating with a little spooky Halloween fun last weekend
The Hospitality Buffet we used for guests earlier this fall was such a hit, I decided to use it for a family birthday weekend
A chalk board birthday sign was front and center
Along with some party pumpkins and a Birthday Cake Glass
And a funky festive flower vase
On the lower part of the island, the theme morphs into a spooky scene with Halloween pumpkins, a witch and ghosts
I found some individual snack bags of Veggie Chips shaped like Ghosts and Bats
Perfect for little monsters!
Boo glasses are ready for the “wine inclined,” and there’s a ghost offering cocktail napkins
This eerie spirit is guarding the snack stand full of cookies, nuts and crackers
A convenient place to find some treats
There are plates at hand for your deadly morsels
or spooky snacks
and mugs for morning potions
A wicked witch will try to lure little hands to her fish full of fruit snacks
The hit of the weekend were these Skellie Bone Bites
Tempura battered fried cheese curds
Nothing spooky about these, just bewitchingly good!
The tempura batter is so light, these are nothing like heavy fried Mozzarella sticks
Note: cheese curds are a little less dense than block cheese, but a good Vermont white cheddar cut into logs will work fine. I bought the cheese curds at Target in the deli section

Skellie Bone Bites aka Tempura Cheese Curds
Ingredients
- tempura batter mix
- cheese curds or white cheddar cheese cut into fat logs
- beer for batter optional
- dipping sauce
Instructions
- Prepare batter mix as directed, substituting beer for water if desired.
- Dredge cheese in batter and fry in medium hot oil 2 minutes, or until batter is crisp.
- Drain on paper towels and serve with a dipping sauce such as ranch dressing or marinara sauce. Make a lot, they will go quickly!
Here’s what else we noshed on
The menu was made with PicMonkey, and printed out and posted for guests to see what’s cooking!
Coming up I’ll be sharing the recipes for:
Sour Cream & Chive Bacon Dip, Blueberry Shortcake Bread Pudding, Butterscotch Cake Bars
click on the recipe titles below to see the other menu items
Short Rib Tacos with Asian Slaw
Rosemary Parmesan Sweet Potato Boats
All these recipes were chosen for ease of preparation. I planned the menu and decor in advance with the help of this Pinterest board to collect and organize my thoughts. Grocery shopping before guests arrived made this food-filled weekend a breeze, along with lots of helping hands…
Thank you for coming to the party!

I want to have my birthday at your house ! Lol.
Lovin’ the little ghost dip bowl! Looks like a fun time:@)
Ooh what a fun birthday bash, Jenna! You’re the best hostess for parties.
I also love the tipsy witch, your pumpkin patch salad and those ham and cheese party sandwiches from your previous posts. Using Mary’s pastry idea, and cut into pumpkin shapes, made those morsels extra yummy, I’ll bet!
Thank you Kitty! It’s been a busy couple of weeks, I’m going to relax this weekend and stay out of the kitchen! >
Jenna, you are truly the party planner extraordinaire! I have a birthday this month, may I celebrate at your house!
Ha, we’ve always made a big deal of birthdays, Happy Birthday to you! >
Once again so cute and creative! I love it. I am sure it was a big hit! Love the tiered tray and all of the goodies it houses. Have a wonderful week!
Thanks Lynn! We had a lot of fun! >
You’re the hostess with the mostest Jenna! I know the kids get a kick out of all the spooky fun and snacks! Pass the Rosemary Parmesan Sweet Potato Boats my way and I’m definitely wine-inclined 🙂
What fun! The details are amazing and the colors are so refreshing. Love it! I am going to look it over again.
