Fearless Friday, Gingerbread!
Let’s talk gingerbread!
I am going to be making gingerbread houses with the kiddos tomorrow,
I confess that even though HHjr and I debated about making the real thing, we caved and bought kits at Target and assembled the houses ahead of time. An eager 3, 4, and 8 year old don’t have much patience to let the foundation dry and set
They will be able to start right in with the good stuff, you know CANDY! 🍬
I might not be able to bake gingerbread, but I know an easy way to paint gingerbread people
To paint a gingerbread person start with large dots
1 dot for the head, and 2 dots for the feet, spacing the feet about 2 dot widths below the head dot
Add 2 dots for arms, a little closer to the head than the feet
Stroke down from the head to one foot, and repeat stroking down to the other foot
A gingerbread man is born!
Once the body is dry add the trimmings anyway you like
Use the tip of the brush handle to add dots and a small brush to add wavy lines
If you’re painting a circle of them, around a bucket, a jar, a glass or a bowl, and want to space them evenly, start by doing 1, then adding the second one directly opposite, then it will be easier to space the rest equidistant to each other
I used a medium brown caramel color, mixed with a little lighter brown to give the color more depth
A smile stroke of red for the mouth
Black dots for eyes and buttons
Pink cheeks and dots for the girls
Green trim and a bow tie for the boys
And a few sprigs of holly
Make a stroke and then a mirror stroke, either slightly curved or straight, and then add another set of strokes right below the first set
Add red dots for berries
Dress them up any way you like!
Easier than baking!

It’s going to be part of our Christmas Eve Lunch with Santa

*Note: when painting things to be used for food, use curable paint for glass and only paint the surfaces that will not come into contact with the food. Look for wide bordered plates, platters and bowls like the one pictured. Good sources for white ceramic pieces are Target, Bed Bath & Beyond, Old Time Pottery

Jenna, that is just precious! What a wonderful heirloom you have created, something the kids can bring out every year, then fight about later, LOL! Maybe you need to do a few more. You make it look so easy.

Jenna, I wish I had just a touch of your creative gene, this painting is a great project. Yep, I know the impatience of waiting on the gingerbread kits to dry while assembling! This is a great way of making memories with a keepsake. Have fun!

There’s enough cuteness in this project for ten different families! Gingerbread is actually one of my favorite desserts.
