Fearless Friday, Mardi Gras Mask
The Gulf Coast is gearing up for Mardi Gras
Last year I made a Mardi Gras Bucket
Time to change things up!
This year we have a Mardi Gras boat
and a Mardi Gras mask
I bought this assembled pallet piece at Walmart for about $6
The minute I began to apply paint I realized how porous and grainy the wood was
Which dictated that I simplify the design
Crisp edges and many details would never be possible
In art, just like anything else, sometimes you have to make adjustments and changes along the way because of conditions or circumstances
Don’t fight it, just adapt and move along
And don’t be too quick too judge, or give up, often things come together at the very end
I added the 4th and 5th layers of the jester hat in toned down purple and gold to give the feeling of distance
Edging the black mask with gold and lime brings it to life
Mardi Gras colors signify justice {purple}, faith {green}, and power {gold}
Mardi Gras traditionally meant Fat Tuesday, the day before Ash Wednesday, and the beginning of the Lenten season
Now it has come to mean the whole season before Lent, with parties, balls and parades
Most people don’t realize that Mardi Gras in the United States originated in Mobile, Alabama, 15 years before New Orleans was founded

Your mask really turned out great Jenna. The lime and gold edging sure gave it a finished look! The trinkets in the boat are fun and your porch looks ready to welcome guests to all the festivities. I did know Mobile was first with Mardi Gras. Jim and I enjoyed going to the balls in our younger days 🙂

I pulled all my Mardi Gras decorations out of storage yesterday and am busy “beading” everything in sight! Now I wish I had a cute mask board like this to add to the sparkle! I’m going to look for a board to decorate and copy the heck out of you!!!

I love it, Jenna! It’s so cute! Edging the mask really made it “pop.” I only have some king cake candles out right now for Mardi Gras because I’ve decorated for Valentine’s Day.
But since Mardi Gras is later this year, I’ll decorate for it after Valentine’s Day!
I know I’m thrilled the two holidays weren’t the same week this year! I’ve got one house in full Valentine mode and the other in Mardi Gras 🙂 >

Laissez les bons temps rouler Jenna! As you might guess I love your Mardi Gras boat! The pallet piece from Walmart is the perfect size for a project I have in mind and I love your mask. I’m so glad the holidays are spread out this year for more celebration time 🙂
I was born in Mobile, AL and remember the parades when I was a pre-schooler. Miss that!
