Fearless Friday, Sketching Station

There are so many wonderful mediums to explore in the art world

As much as I’d love to paint everyday, in reality that’s just a folly

But I have created a mini studio at my fingertips,

Markers, pens, colored pencils and small sketch books

Having things within easy reach means that when I sit down to relax or watch TV, I can sketch away…

I keep magazines nearby too, flipping through the pages and sketching small snippets and patterns of things that catch my eye

A MacKenzie-Childs catalog is a treasure trove for me…

So many whimsical subjects and patterns

The frog prince was drawn with pencil, then colored and inked with markers, colored pencil and pen

By combining marker and colored pencil you can create wonderful shading

I am trying to master writing with a new pen that has a flexible calligraphy nib, but I have a lot of practicing to do with that…

This side table holds a tray big enough to corral necessities, flanked by an additional Nora Fleming utensil holder donning a carrot for the season

The sketch books are easily stored there too

I like the spiral bound Canson 5.5 x 8.5 inch universal sketch book, and I also have a notebook, Burst of Color, with blank pages from my Society6 Shop

It’s a great size to tuck in your bag for sketching, jotting down lists, notes…

and how about a Bacon Double Cheeseburger Notebook  for recipe ideas  🍔

This quick sketch with ink and marker helped me formulate the design for a small glass vase

You can see an easy tutorial for painting small roses here

There’s even enough room on my tray for the vase of flowers

The “m” mug {Anthropologie}  was given to me by Superboy & Big E, so it’s a valued treasure

It’s amazing what you can accomplish with a little organization…

  1. I love all of your work, Jenna! Have a wonderful weekend.

  2. You are amazing..I love all of your art! Going to Society 6 is on my to do list this weekend….I received the geranium pillow cover and love it! My granddaughter is a budding artist and her birthday request was a rather pricey set of pencils for her gift from her parents…I will check on those markers, etc that you have recommended…have a great weekend!

Using that oh so tempting MacKenzie-Childs catalog as inspiration for your art is brilliant Jenna! Love those hopping bunnies and Frog Prince! P.S. Wouldn’t you love to have a stack of those M-C enamel pots?!!

  8. Jenna, you just are so talented, a wonderful artist!

  9. It looks wonderful — all neat and tidy and ready to roll. It makes a difference having it right at your fingertips. I tend to set up much stuff on the window sill in the living/dining area so it’s easy but I like your portable tray! Perfection. (And the sketches are wonderful too!)

  10. Jenna, you are so gifted in every way, and organized to top it all off. Love your creative artwork. I have the Anthro mug with my initial!

  11. Julie says:

That is a great idea Jenna to have the supplies in a tray and in cups ready for you to relax and get creative with. I need to set aside time like you to draw and be more creative. I just get preoccupied with so many other things. You are such a talented artist.
Thanks for sharing these tips at C&C with J&J.
    Have a Happy Easter.
    Julie xo
