Recipe Box, Grillmaster’s BBQ Sauce

When I saw the spread on the kitchen island, I asked HHjr
“What are you making?”
“It’s a championship winning recipe adapted from Big Bob Gibson,” he replied
Big Bob Gibson is an Alabama legend who is famous for his White BBQ Sauce and BBQ joints
“Yikes, that’s a lot of ingredients!” I said
“Yeah, but it’s not hard to make at all…you just dump everything in a pan and simmer for 15 minutes” he explained
There are so many great bottled BBQ sauces available, and just as many prized family and secret recipes, but you really ought to give this one a try sometime, all of us are raving about it
HHjr buys these handy squeeze bottles at Walmart for under $1, great for putting the perfect drizzle on your BBQ pulled pork sandwich, chicken, ribs, or anything!

- 1 cup tomato paste
- 3/4 cup brown sugar
- 2/3 cup light corn syrup
- 1/2 cup real maple syrup
- 4 T honey
- 3 T molasses
- 4 tsp salt
- 4 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 T apple juice
- 1 1/2 tsp soy sauce
- 1 1/2 tsp liquid smoke
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 3/4 tsp cornstarch
- 1/2 tsp dry mustard
- 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 1/8 tsp garlic powder
- 1/8 tsp cumin
Instructions
- Combine ingredients in a medium sauce pan and bring to boil over medium high heat. Reduce heat to medium low and simmer for 10-15 minutes. Cool then transfer to covered container and refrigerate for up to two weeks. Brush meat with sauce at the end of grilling, or bring to room temperature, or warm before serving on the side.
This smells amazing while it’s simmering, be prepared for droolers!
Do not be intimidated by the number of ingredients, most of them are probably already in your pantry
Happy Grillin’ & Chillin’!

Jenna, how nice to have a male chef in your family! I can smell the sauce simmering now and I do like throw it all in a pot!
He loves to cook and feed the masses, I’m spoiled!
Good to know the long ingredient list is worth it! I love that there is maple syrup and molasses in there. The BBQ sauce looks good! How great that you had a sous chef Jenna!

yes, he does most of the cooking, it’s wonderful!
Your BBQ sauce sounds tasty. Which ingredient did you use? White vinegar or apple cider vinegar? They are very different in taste and 3/4 C is a lot.
Thanks.
