Football season kicked off last weekend 🏈 🐘 ❤️
We get very excited about football season!
The only football thing I had at the beach house was an Alabama crock pot
Do you ever use a crockpot just to keep food warm on a buffet?
Even if you don’t use it for cooking it works like a charm to keep just about anything you want to serve warm, like sandwiches, chicken wings, nuggets, sausage balls
If you want to get creative you can paint or decorate jars in your teams colors or with football related designs
I recently painted some jars with chalky white milk paint, to organize my markers with color coordinated lids
Jars are great for decluttering your desk area or corralling children’s art supplies
Pinterest has tons of inspirations for painted jars, an easy craft anyone can do
You can use old jars, and even if you can’t get the pesky labels completely off, milk paint or chalk paint does a great job covering them up
Houndstooth is often associated with Alabama football, a representation of legendary coach Bear Bryant’s famous hat
I use a flat square brush for my simplified version, repeating square strokes on the diagonal around the jar
Nothing symbolizes Alabama better than the elephant
They are easy to paint, below is the basic outline of strokes
The secret to painting anything is to break in down into simple shapes
I mix the grays with black and white, leaving a little black and white on my brush unmixed, so the strokes will have variation and dimension
My jars all have raised lettering and designs embossed in the glass so things look a little distorted on the bumpy jar surface in some areas, like the elephants face
I used my jars for flatware and napkins, but painted jars are great for blooms
On a desk or vanity
For gifts or decorative jars, like these simple Holiday Tree Jars
I also painted a platter, much easier than the bumpy glass~
It goes with this “Roll with the Tide” pillow I found at Pottery Barn last year
Rolling with the Tide is perfect for the coast

It is easy to create jars for your own team, use team colors in stripes, dots, or solid colors, ribbons, letters

Notes: Be sure to use paint that is made for painting glass if you are going to paint something that you will be used for food or beverages
The Milk Paint I used is from Walmart and I painted over parts of the paper label I couldn’t remove from the houndstooth jar, it does an amazing job of covering in 1 coat
The elephant face on the jar looks a little funny because that jar has a lot of raised designs, so for best results paint on a smooth surface
Remember if you are painting dishware, use curable paint for glass and do not paint areas where food will be. Glass paint is not food safe, and will scratch, however many brands are dishwasher safe

I got mine at Bed Bath & Beyond with a 20% coupon and it has a warm feature that I love, you need to get the Eagles one Lynn!!

Now I’m worried about you and Birmingham Emily! We decided to stay on the coast next week, to stay out of Irma’s way as she moves across Bama, hopefully it will just be a rain event for you…
Glad you’re out of the path at this time, Jenna. It took my sister 13.5 hrs to travel 7.5 from Beaufort yesterday. Sounded like a horror show as she described it. Great post, full of all kinds of creativity.
At least she got there, whew what a mess! We now are staying on the coast because Birmingham is being flooded with evacuees and traffic is becoming difficult there too. Plus now Birmingham is in the cone, agh!

This Irma thing is making me a nervous wreck. The European model keeps shifting it slightly west. I hope their model is wrong!
Me too, we pack and unpack, now we’ve decided we are staying all next week just to stay out of the evacuation traffic and the potential storm weather north. There is a possibility of storm surge here, but not too much. Orange Beach is already getting crowded with evacuees and Pensacola traffic is backed up. Hopefully, you won’t loose power and can paint some jars! Stay safe and make sure you have lots of good books 🙂
