Fearless Friday, Pour Technique

Happy Fearless Friday!

Have you heard of the pour technique?

This is a fun technique that anyone can do, the paint does all the work!

Mix fluid paint with pouring medium, which will thicken it enough to pour without being too runny, and stay in place when surface is flat

I mixed 3 colors

An old painted canvas was covered with black gesso, leaving the previously painted purplish edges and sides the original color

You can see the raised parts from the old painting but that won’t matter for this project

First a little pour and drizzle of purple

Then turquoise and yellow

And like magic, when the yellow and turquoise meet you have green!

Tilt the canvas with each pour to get paint to run and mix

This can get messy!  Make sure your work surface is protected and you can even let the paint run over the edges if you like

Here I added white directly from the fluid squeeze bottle it came in

Big mistake, without the pouring medium the white took over and spread too much

At this point I let it dry completely

The painting will actually change when drying, some areas will shrink and feather out into other areas, and some may bubble and pop

Once dry I poured a little gold over the white areas to tone them down a bit

“Get Crazy” 4″ x 4″ acrylic on canvas

This was a fun experimental project, I am going to practice and then try something bigger

You can see more examples of this cool technique on Pinterest here, and find links to You Tube videos and tips
