Having a coastal home for 31 years means we’ve experienced a lot of hurricanes and storms
We’ve seen all kinds of crazy things, a couple of years ago we had an inch of hail in April!
Hurricanes are the definite downside of the life in paradise, we try to think of them as “merely a brief interruption of good weather,” but that’s hard to do this year when they have been so devastating to so many
As I write this on Saturday, we aren’t on a Hurricane Watch this time but under a Hurricane Warning
The morning is cloudy, but calm and very humid
Everything outside has been secured, and the furniture brought inside
The weather channel is broadcasting from here, Orange Beach AL, with forecasters to the east of us in Pensacola and west of us in Mobile, Biloxi and New Orleans and north in Birmingham
We debated about leaving, but because the storm was supposed to be a fast moving Cat 1 we decided to stay, Birmingham could actually be just as bad…
This time on Sunday the sun is supposed to be back out…
And hopefully we will be busy moving the furniture back outside and getting things back to normal and living as usual
I have written a few posts for next week, that will publish on schedule, but if you don’t hear from me, it’s because we lost power…
But fingers crossed, we will have minimal damage and outages…

Ugh, I know this has got to be taxing on you. My sister in Beaufort frets each one, and follows their paths way too long before they even arrive. I really dislike the Weather Channel trying to hype it up. I received two message alerts on my phone yesterday…..it’s like click bait. We will receive rain from the fast-moving cone, not sure how much. Cheers to safety!

I hope you’re stay safe and dry this morning Jenna. I Googled and saw the waterspout off Orange Beach last night. I know you’ll be celebrating December 1st when hurricane season is over!
We got very nervous when Jim Cantore was here yesterday! Luckily we dodged another bullet, no damage, didn’t even lose power 😅 I am declaring hurricane season officially over now 🍾

There are over 17000 customers without power here in Birmingham now, and the power keeps flickering here out in the Farms! And we have underground utilities! 459 has been shut down because a truck was blown over (near Liberty Park) and there have been numerous accidents.
You’re probably better off in Orange Beach!

Ps: BTW What are the stickers for? They look fun! I got my order in, and I love everything, but I was very pleasantly surprised with the lined journals. Do you have one? They are thicker than I thought and much more sturdy. LOVE LOVE LOVE them!
Yes, ultimately we thought we might be better off here, but it was scary when the tornado sirens kept going off yesterday and we are sitting in a home on stilts with lots of windows and no basement! Hope your power stays on~ Not really sure what the stickers are for, just for sticking on stuff I guess, I ordered a couple to play with. I am so glad you love the notebooks, I have given some as gifts but need to keep one for myself!
These hurricanes need to take a long walk off that beautiful short pier outside your home!!! Man, I tell you…the hurricane season has been really brisk this year! I saw that the hurricane made landfall in Louisiana as a cat 1, so I’m hoping damage is relatively minimal. You’re so brave to stick around for those things, but I’m sure you’ve learned when to cut bait in your 31 years there! These stupid tornadoes here in the Midwest…they just pop up from outta nowhere with little or no warning. I’m scared to death of them, but there are plenty of storm chasers and others who will just stand there staring them down. Not for me!!!

Thanks Alycia, tornadoes are definitely scary, unfortunately they are part of hurricanes too! I have declared hurricane season officially over, so I hope Mother Nature is paying attention!

Jenna, I am late to Sunday’s post! I am glad that it wasn’t so bad on the coast! Our son, DIL, and Ella Mae were at Orange Beach and they drove home on Saturday. We had lots and lots of rain yesterday, some gusty winds…there are power outages. It is extremely muggy today, fog, and clouds, and more rain. It seems like we have been on hurricane and tropical strorm watch too often thie last month or so!
Not good at all. I hope it cleared you and the worst you got — if anything — was a bit of non-damaging blowing and rain that didn’t flood. Please do let us know how you fared when you can. And, if this helps at all, I just ordered two of your totebags a few minutes ago. Can’t wait for them!
It’s a lot of work to prepare for a hurricane. We do the same every time we have tornadoes in the area, which is often! Clearing off porches makes you think twice about adding another thing! I’m glad Nate passed quickly and without damage! 🙂
