Party Panache, Tiramisu Jars

I have never been superstitious about Friday the 13th, but last Friday was frightful!

DD and her family arrived for a Spooky Visit to celebrate her birthday

Which wasn’t frightful, but delightful!

HH & I had the menu planned, the groceries bought, and some of the food already made,

We were all set!

DD doesn’t like cake, but she loves Tiramisu so I made a jar version, in perfect serving sizes

DD brought us some mail from our other house, including a bill from the water company

It’s usually $30-$40 a month, so when HH saw the amount due was $170, we knew we had a problem…

and sure enough the water meter was spinning like a child’s toy…

We called the Water Company and they came right out

“You need a plumber, you have a leak in the main line…”

We got a plumber to come out that afternoon…”we can’t find the leak until we start digging, and you’ll probably have to replace the main line $$$…of course, it might be your sprinkler system, but we aren’t allowed to touch that…”

That night the kitchen sink backed up while doing the dishes, AGH!

We got another plumber to come out Saturday and he did fix the problem fairly quickly…can you say popsicle sticks…

Sunday after DD left, we were washing sheets and towels, and I say we, because HH actually loves to do laundry!

I am seriously spoiled…

BUT, the washing machine broke, as in moaned and groaned, and basically said, I’ve had it!

So Monday morning we’re dreading a torn up driveway, when our sprinkler guy shows up and discovers that the leak is in the sprinkler system

Good news!

We don’t have to tear up driveway and the sprinkler system can be turned off and fixed anytime before next spring

We were feeling so much better, leak problem solved, sink fixed, and thanks to the magic of a computer keyboard we had a new washing machine scheduled for delivery

“Didn’t you just put water in the pool?”

“Yes, and NG put some in on Saturday…”

“I wonder why it needs water again?”  😳

“Oh no!!   😱   Seriously??    Now we have a leak in the pool?”

Just so you know, life at the beach is not always paradise…

But it’s nothing that a Jar of Tiramisu can’t fix!

Tiramisu Jars

Prep Time 10 minutes
Course Dessert
Cuisine American, Italian
Servings 6

Equipment

  • 1/2 pint jars

Ingredients

  • 4 oz Mascarpone cheese
  • 4 oz Cream cheese
  • 1/4 c Sugar
  • 1 tsp Vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup Kahlua or very strong coffee*
  • 8 oz. Cool Whip thawed, divided
  • Milano dulce de leche Pepperidge Farm Cookies or any cookie of choice
  • Mini chocolate chips

Instructions

  • Beat cheeses with sugar, vanilla and Kahlua. Fold in 1/2 of cool whip. Break cookies in 2-3 pieces. Begin layering by adding 2 spoonfuls cream cheese mixture to bottom of jar, then cookies and repeat. Top with a dollop of reserved cool whip and mini chocolate chips. Put lids on jars and refrigerate up to 1 week.
  • Makes 6 1/2 pint jars

Notes

*Note: you can dip your cookies in coffee if desired. I tried submerging them in coffee for a minute or two and they completely turned into mush, so experiment a little to see how your cookie will do. I opted to leave the coffee out so my cookies would not get too soft when refrigerated for several days.
Keyword dessert in a jar, easy dessert, Tiramisu

I recommend doubling the recipe, these go fast!!  They will keep in the refrigerator for up to a week if you’re lucky and they last that long…

  1. Ugh, ugh, ugh! What a mess! Oh, I’m so sorry you have to deal with that. It always seems to come at once, doesn’t it? I know my shower had to be redone (leaking in the basement is not the remodel I hoped for) and washer broke at the same time. (Fortunately, Rick has a working washing machine so I’m good there for awhile. But my fridge is overworking and who knows what else. So I can empathize with your frustration. I am glad it was the sprinklers — at least you can spread that one out.

I have to say, for such a sad post the photos and recipe are very cheery! Looks fun and yum!

Leaks and sprinklers and pools, oh my! Don’t look now, but I think the pirate skeleton has put a spell on you. ; ) Seriously, so sorry to hear of all the mishaps, most that can only be solved by throwing money at them. But, it is often good to hear that our house is not the only one that undergoes such disasters. I salute you as you kept going and made tiramisu. Hang in there, once All Hallows Eve passes you can breathe a sigh of relief. Take care, and keep posting–I love your stories, your art, your joie de vivre!

    • Thank you Lynn, I do feel like someone put a spell on us! I think our luck has changed, HH found a leaky valve and solved the pool leak problem, so everything’s rosy at this moment!

  3. Ugh, when it rains, it pours. At least you found a silver lining in the water meter issue. The tiramisu is a good salve. 😉

  4. Mary says:

Jenna, Double, Double Toil and Trouble…so sorry to hear all the woes but glad it was just your sprinkler system! I’ll keep my fingers crossed that the pool is a relatively easy fix$! Food in jars is always fun and I love the combo of flavors using the MIlano cookies as the base of your Tiramisu jars! Keep Calm and Jar On 🙂

    • haha, you are so right, it was double double toil and trouble!! We had fun anyway and all is well now, but next time there is a Friday 13th on the calendar, I am going to beware!

  5. Sandy Park says:

Oh my, so sorry for all of your problems. Hopefully, everything will be fixed and up and running again.

  6. Jodi says:

Oh dear. When it rains it pours.

  7. Well, good grief, Charlie Brown!!!!! I think you get a free pass on the next couple of Friday the 13ths!!!!! Crazy stuff! And popsicle sticks??? Really?!!?!??!!! Yep…you get a pass!

  8. Anonymous says:

Plumbers at the house are never a good thing. It’s always the unknown. I’m glad it wasn’t a situation where there was a leak and damage to the house! I made Tiramisu in teacups before, but I’m liking your jar idea too. Perfect for an autumn picnic!

  9. Oh Jenna, I am so sorry about all your water problems. At least your driveway is not going to be dug up! Hopefully, the pool won’t be a big issue! I love tiramisu! Thanks for sharing the recipe!

  10. Ricki Treleaven says:

Wow, when it rains it pours, huh? Bad things happen in threes so you should be done! 🙂
The tiramisu looks so delish, and I like how you’ve served it in the jars. So portable! They would be great for the boat, and Trip’s favorite dessert is tiramisu!

    • I hope you try it RJ, so easy and so good! Yes, we seem to be done with problems now, my new washing machine is washing away…the guy said we burned up the motor in the old one! There was soot underneath it 😱 Yikes! He told me appliances weren’t even worth fixing anymore because they are so poorly made now…

  11. Karen says:

They say things happen in threes but what has been happening around your home is totally not good. A comforting dessert like your little jars of tiramisu sound like just what you needed.

  12. Sharon Mann says:

I’ve had all those plumbing problems, too. But you finsihed what was important the Tiramisu! Thanks for sharing your story we can all sympathize. 🙂

  13. Kitty says:

Oh my goodness, Jenna, Popsicle sticks, a sprinkler system, and a new washing machine, and on top of that a pool leak!! At least your dear daughter got a fantastic dessert, which I would love to try. Who doesn’t love their own jar of goodness? Good luck with everything!

  14. such fun, love the photos!

  15. Kim says:

Ugh! Adulting can be so frustrating sometimes! (Your sweet desserts console us!) We’ve been through the whole “dig up your yard” to find a broken water main (in Georgia). Lucky us, it wasn’t under the house. Our neighbor had to bust up the concrete under their kitchen floor – and then in another spot – chasing down a leak. Just remember…things could always be worse. I remembered that story and was thankful as we survived last month with no oven or dishwasher. I hope your pool line is fine! It’s freaky season, though, so watch out!

  16. Miz Helen says:

Your Tiramisu Jars look amazing, of course I would love them, Tiramisu is one of my favorites. Your little painters are precious, they make all things better, even plumbing issues. Thanks so much for sharing with us at Full Plate Thursday. Have a great week and come back to see us real soon!
