Fearless Friday, Pink Poinsettias

Let’s paint some flowers today

Pink Poinsettias are my favorite holiday flower

They are full of so many beautiful colors and tones

Not to stress you out but did you know there are only 58 days until Christmas????

As I filled in the shapes with color I began erasing the sketch

Once pencil lines are painted over it’s hard to get rid of them

I started laying in the background to give the petals even more definition

More work on the petals… I tend to jump around between different areas as I work, to keep everything balanced and cohesive

I filled in the rest of the background with very loose leaf shapes with a large round brush

After drying, I added some accents with ink

“Pink Poinsettias”

So much to do, so little time!

Be Fearless!

  1. Pretty, Jenna! Hope you’re back to feeling your fierce self again. One sure would never know you were under the weather, given your continuous output of food and artwork. Happy Friday!

  2. Jenna, I LOVE this design!! I will be watching for this to appear in your shop as I need a notebook to get ready for the next 58 days. Are you kidding??? Well, we will go fearlessly on! At least I am past the point of needing to stay up half the night to help Santa assemble things. And I hope you are feeling better. You were missed in NYC but I did love your new card design! Linda

So pretty, and a couple of days ago when it was October 25th, I did panic a little, I’ll admit!

    Gorgeous Jenna! Absolutely gorgeous!

  7. Very pretty. I always have trouble erasing after the paint is on (w.c., not acrylic). Any hints?

    • You’ve got to do it before you paint as far as I know Jeanie, there must be some kind of trick or special pencil, but so far I haven’t found it…the only thing you might try is using watercolor pencils for the sketch so you could blend the lines in later…

  8. Your painting of poinsettias is much prettier than real life poinsettias. Hope you have a wonderful weekend!

  9. Jenna, pink poinsettias are my favorite! I love this, surely it will appear in your shop soon! I believe ithas been the fastest year of my life, and to read that number did stress me out! 😳

Love your pretty watercolor pink poinsettias Jenna! I like to slow down these days and enjoy the month of November and Thanksgiving after a 25+ year career in retail career. . .buying Christmas merchandise in January, having it arrive in July and on the store shelves by September. I think I must have PTSD since the thought of Christmas still fills me with a little panic and sense of dread, even after retiring 9 years ago! 😉

Gorgeous! Thank you for posting the tutorial. I took a watercolor painting class many years ago but never felt confident about my ability to be able to master the technique. I just might try again using your tutorial! I featured this post on my blog today at Vintage Mama’s Cottage:
